What is involved in being a co-admin? I don't always have internet access.

Yes, I wish I had leisure time. Between work, child, husband, home and animals there are not many hours left in a day. I do try to read some every night though. Sometimes, I do get an entire day to myself, and I love it.

I am going to visit my Mom for her birthday next week (she lives about 6 hours by car from me). She is in the middle of her chemotherapy treatments so we will be spending lots of quiet time in her home. I will bring lots of books because I will have so much time to read. I am looking forward to seeing her and the quiet reading time.

I read the diary of Anne Frank a long time ago. Did you like it?

    Hi J.M.
I have a backyard, but to be honest I don't spend much time out there. With 3 dogs I concentrate on just keeping it clean and tidy. I don't plant much, I have mostly grass hedges and trees.

I picked up my copy of Oceans of Fire from the library today. I will let you know how I like it.

    What are you currently reading?

Yes, we had a good week visiting with my husband's family. We don't get to see them very often because they are so far away. We flew home yesterday, and I finished two books while we were gone (one Charlaine Harris book and Robert Crais' new book). Both were very good. It was hard to read on the plane though - we had a couple of loud children behind us! Oh well!

Sorry to hear that your book search didn't turn up anything good this past weekend. Did you enjoy the search anyway?

Louie sounds like a great cat! Yes, I also believe our animals can understand us, and that they somehow read our feelings and react to them (as in cuddling up to you when you are having a bad day). And I can't blame Louie for raising a leg to a mouse, I might want to do the same thing if I saw one!

I am heading out of town for a few days. If I don't talk to you before the weekend, I hope you have great weather and get to lots of good book sales.

Sorry to hear that your weekend booksale plans were spoiled by rain. We actually had a nice weekend, not too hot. But that won't last long, it is summer afterall!

We do have pets. Right now we have 2 Sheltie's (Sheltland Sheepdogs) that are both 11 years old. They are brothers, and are by far the best dogs we have ever had, Great temperments. We also have a puppy, she is almost 1 year old and is a terrier mix. She is very small and cute, but not a great personality. She doesn't like strangers and will bite if they try to pet her. Her nickname is baby Cujo (after the Stephen King novel).

My cat died last year, she was 20 years old. She was a siamese (sp?) mix, and would talk up a storm. I still miss her, we were together a long time. Our hampster also recently died, but he was over 3 years old and the dwarf hampsters usually only live about 2 years, so we were lucky to have him so long.

No more cats or hampsters for now - 3 dogs are enough!

Your cat Louie sounds really cute! I like Garfield! How old is Louie?

    J.M.,
I've ordered Christine Feehen's Oceans of Fire (since they don't need to be read in order), and Lynn Kurland's "A Dance Through Time". I'll let you know when I have them.

This weekend we are just running errands. We are going to Texas next week for a wedding and I have lots to do before we leave. Plus I have to finish Harlan Coben's "Hold Tight" because I have to return it to the library on Monday, and my family wants to go see the movie "Get Smart" so we will probably do that this afternoon.

Hope you find lots of good books at the sales!

I am going to give both the Christine Feehan and the Lynn Kurland books a try. I just ordered them from the library so I should have them in a few weeks.

    Thanks for the recommendations!

Have any exciting plans for the wekend?

I have heard of Christine Freehan. I need to add one of her books to me "to be read" pile. Do you know which one was first in the Drake sister series? Should I try to read them in order, or does it not matter with this series?

By the way, don't be embarrassed about the book mix up. Happens to me all the time!

Lately I have been watching the violin show; it's getting quite addictive--thanks for recommending it. That one anime site that you sent me has been, I think, sort of exposed. None of the links are working. :/ But the movie site was quite nice. :]] I watched Don't Mess With The Zohan and that night I had a dream about sneaking into a movie theatre, lol.

I am very squeamich. So much so that if a book gets too graphic, especially with torture or cutting, I just can't finish it. I have not been able to finish a Charlie Huston book, or James Patterson (at least the one I tried) because of it. If a book is well written and doesn't go into too much detail, I don't have a problem. I think if the gore lasts more than paragraph I try to just skip it and move on, unless it happens too often in one book. Then I stop, so I guess I don't give myself the opportunity to regret reading it!

As for paranormal, I havent read much so far...the Sookie series, one or two JR Ward Black Dagger Brotherhood, a couple of the Johanna Lindsay (I picked them up by mistake thinking they were historical romance), and Stephanie Meyer. So far Charlaine Harris and Stephanie Meyer are my favorites.

Do you have favorites to recommend?

OK, now I get the werewolf and fairy confusion! Yes, Sookie is a human that can read minds (except those of a vampire). She has friends that are vampires, werewolves, shifters and faries. Definitely Dead is book 6 out of 8 (so far), so there is a lot of back story you don't know about yet. The first book is Dead Until Dark. The books go like this:

    1. Dead Until Dark
    2. Living Dead in Dallas
    3. Club Dead
    4. Dead to the World
    5. Dead as a Doornail
    6. Definitely Dead
    7. All Together Dead
    8. From Dead to Worse

I didn't start reading them in order, I started with book 5 and then 4 - because that is what I found at the library. But then I ordered them from the library in order and the books made a lot more sense, and I liked them much better when I understood the entire story and became invested in the characters. Then I went out and bought them because I sometimes reread my favorites when I need a quick escape from real life.

As for what I like to read. I probably like mysteries the best, but I am squeamish so I don't like anything that gets into too much gory detail. I also like romance a lot, but again with a caveat that I don't like too much flowery language, but like you I like a bit of humor in both my romance and mysteries.

I just started reading some paranormal and I am liking that, but not so much sci-fi. I need it to be somewhat believable.

    Boy, I sound pretty picky!

Really like most people, you give me a really well written story with likeable characters and I'll read almost any genre (at least once anyway!)

Grave Surprise is #2 out of 3 of the Harper Connelly series. I have only read #1 (Grave Sight) so far. Harper is a human. She was hit by lightening some years ago, and since then she can now sense the last moments of a dead person when she is near the body. So people hire her to find out what happened to their loved one, and to help find the killer.

As for werewolf or fairy friends, there wern't any in the book I read. Charlaine Harris does have werewolves, shifters, fairies and vampires in the Sookie Stackhouse series but I don't know about Grave Surprise. I'll look it up and see if I can figure it out.

Nothing wrong with taking you day off to rest and recharge. Everyone needs to do that, especially when you work 6 days a week.

My husband often works 6 days a week also. When he does he usually spends his day off reading a good book. It relaxes the mind and lets you escape from daily life for awhile. I know that is why I like to read!

What is your favorite type of book to read (like mystery, romance, science fiction)?

Very funny story about the 65 year old customer! My mom is similar (although she does know what a mouse is!), so I try to help her with her computer every chance I get. I am no expert, but I can solve the simple issues. She lives about 6 hours away from me, but I try to drive up to see her every couple of months.

I like the idea of Powerbooks. We have a couple of big book stores nearby, and they let you browse through books, but discourage full on reading of a book. They would rather you buy it and bring it home to read. I go to the library every 2 weeks or so, and bring home maybe 5-6 books to read. They also have a pretty large used book sale section where you can buy books people have donated to the library and the money goes toward buying new books for the library. I buy quite a few books there, they are very reasonably priced.

Sounds like you work a lot. When do you find time to read? I usually only have an hour or two each evening to read, but if the book is really good I am sometimes tired the next day because I stayed up too late reading!

With my job I am very lucky because it is only a couple of miles from my home. It only takes about 10 minutes to get there. I did, however, chose to work close to home and part time so that I would not be too far away from my daughter. I have a very nice boss, who lets me take off work when I have things I need to do for my family (like school functions and teacher meetings). I don't get paid as much as someone who works full time or drives to the downtown area, but it is worth it to me to be there for my family.

On my days off, I usually clean house and take care of my daughter (help with her homework, or take her and her friends out for some fun). My favorite thing is to go to the beach (and bring a book to read). I was at the beach today because it was so hot here, and it was much more comfortable at the beach. It is about an hour drive to the beach, so we left in the later morning and stayed until evening.

How about you, what do you like to do?
