Justin M. Kolenc

Justin M. Kolenc

I served in the US Navy from October of 1998 through August of 2003 and have published a memoir of my experiences. I visited 12 countries located on three separate continents in the service. Following 9/11 I became a military police officer. Shortly thereafter I moved to tactical intelligence analysis. Reviews are appreciated!

My son does the writing and directing. I try to fill the producer role. Our feature, which sreened at 11 festivals, didn't get distribution, although you can see a trailer at http://www.lastlatenight.com, and my son did a 10 minute short, which was #1 on iFilm for a couple of weeks several years ago. You can still see it on Spike. Search "Crazy Like the Taz." We've been developing a script for our next feature for the past six years (!). Don't ask.

    Greetings, Justin,
I was straining my brain to remember Ethan Frome--so thanks for the good reminder. I found a few books on your shelf that I'd like to read and added one for starters. How was Brief History? Fairly readable, or highly technical? I know it's time consuming but add some personal reviews, please. I'm interested.

    Hi J
Am adding "Anthem" and "Inspector O" series to my bookshelf to read. Have read Ayn Rand in the past, but not "Anthem".

Thanks for the insight. So how do you go about setting down your experience so that someone wants to read about it? I mean, everyone has a story right, so what makes mine something that someone wants to read? Also, I'm kind of at a loss as to how to get it from entries in a blog to a cohesive story that carries people along, any ideas, techniques? And my story has a happy ending, so of course that's great! It was hard to go through, to still be going through, but that I'm here to continue my life and be around for my family is a literal miracle (ask any doctor who has worked on my case), and I can be happy knowing that.

if you're a fan of einstein, I would recommend you reading "Theories Of Relativity" by, Barbara Hawthorn Attard. It's fiction, but I think you may like it. I did. It incorporates a lot of his theories, through the main character's persepctive of the world, being a homeless teenager.

I kind of knew that from looking at your shelf but I had wondered...Politics and sex go hand in hand in a sense...I'm sure the white house has seen quite a bit of both

So, since you're published and all, if you have time, I'd like to pick your brain. I have a story. You can find it on carepages.com if you search AngelaBuys (no space). A few people have told me I should turn it into a book. What you'll see on there is basically my writing style (except for the first month, and some of it I was WAY drugged up while I was writing), so if you have the time, I'd like your opinion. If you think it's worth writing, I'll ask more questions, if not, I'll appreciate the opinion anyway.

That's what I mean - can you lower the initial shelf price a bit coming out of Lulu or does Lulu determine the price. In otherwords, who decides how much it will sell for on the store shelf?

Koda...isn't that a character from a movie? Like a bear or something? Man, I know it too!!

As for Jonny Cash. I don't really listen to country, or him, and especially not oldies country. Dont know why, but I perfer Debussy and 3oh!3 and Dean Martin. (The extent of my knowladge is Hey Good Lookin by Hank Williams. And I got that for my grand father. )

Wow, that price does seem kind of high - are you getting any sales? It is too bad you weren't given some say in the pricing but I guess that would be pretty normal.

My parents are mad enough that I read Stephanie Meyers books seven times, so I couldn't get in trouble anymore. Right now I am hooked on MaryJanice Davidson. She is so vivid in her details, and the characters are so well developed, I read almot 21 books in a week. (That was the week I was grounded as well so I had alot of time on my hands.)

And I have absolutely no problem with language or anything, MaryJanice has alot of that, and I just kinda pass over it.

And as for Shel. I like him enough, but I don't go out of my way to read him. A few of my friends said that he was their favorite author, but they don't read at all anyway and we are now in the 8th grade. Its somewhat depressing.

I see a dog in your pro pic and I was wondering if that was really you and your dog, or just...
    Ya know.

    Hey Justin,

A Security Specialist was just a fancy name for the folks that guarded the aircraft on the flightline. Mostly I guarded F-16s, some Navy P-3s and E-2s, the AWACs, Army Chinooks and Blackhawks and a few C-130s. I finished up my military service in Panama (circa 1995) working in the base armory. I was also stationed at a high profile base in Nebraska where our squadron played body guards to the bases 45 generals and 1 admiral...Vice Admiral Etchyson...you ever come across him while you were in?

And yes those taxi drivers were insane, but to really live on the edge one must ride on the bus.

    Have a good one,
    Rich
