Try God of the Dead (www.GodoftheDeadNovel.com )

"Goodfella's meets Day of the Dead meets Red Dawn! Max Denno definitely has a fresh take on the zombie movie storyline - I almost didn't think anybody could bring anything new to it - Denno did. I would like to see it hit the silver screen!"

    - Patrick Desmond
    House of Horrors .Com

"God Of The Dead" is a frightening and accurate statement on exactly what is wrong with the world today. Finally someone gets it right when portraying the wise guy culture. Instead of coming off as a cartoonish version of "The Godfather" we get a look into what life would be like for these guys. Add to that a brilliant zombie story of the likes I have never come across and this could be the one that gives Romero a run for his money. Gritty, dark and apocalyptic to the end "God Of The Dead" is a lock for the new fan favorite! Great job! I absolutely loved the script novel!!!!"

What does it take to win a Gastoni?
Well, for starters, you better write a book on a topic I love. Next, your writing style has to be exquisite (to the point of awe and envy). Finally, your story telling has to be transporting. To sum it up, I quote Somerset:

“When I read a book I seem to read it with my eyes only, but now and then I come across a passage, perhaps only a phrase, which has a meaning for me, and it becomes part of me.”

On a more personal note, the time I spent reading and listening to books this year was pure escapism. It felt like I spent most of it in a hospital waiting room (which is not true). When I’d start obsessing about my girl Gracie’s cancer I’d crack a book and ride it hard to block the worst of my fears. At night, when I needed to find a path to sleep, I’d take the easy road and escape down a story line. A good book is a gift.

Our family has so much to be thankful for this year. For starters, Carrie and I have our girl back! She now has about an inch of fine blond hair sticking straight out of her 5 year old head. At school they call her Q-tip. Her teachers call her Q-T-tip. I’ll post a couple holiday pictures of the family up on her website: caringbridge.org/visit/gracegaston

Your friendship is counted among my many blessings. Merry Christmas to you and your family, My best for the New Year, Dave

Tiz the Season. I imagine, like me, you give books. My holiday list keeps getting longer and my holiday budget keeps getting smaller. What's a guy to do? Answer: Ask his stellar and sturdy Shelfarians where they place their orders. I order the majority of my books (for my own consumption) via Amazon Used... but I'm not going to gift a used book (tacky, tacky). So, have you found a place that would offer a deep discount for a volume buy? I'd appreciate you passing on the tip. Thanks, Merry Merry, Dave

Hey jmadigan - thanks for the friend acceptance. I find that you lik llamas really cool - I use to live next to llama farmer and he did llama picnics where we would hike up into the mountains have a picnic then hike back on. As to gamers -- what game are you into? I used to be badly addicted to MORPG's but I've recovered now.

Very thoughtful and well written reviews. Are you a writer? Do you have any advice on how to write those reviews? Or do they just happen?

No, I had one more credit on audible.com that I needed to use before I cancelled (cheaper to get them at the library). I'm just finishing up listening to Time Traveler's Wife. I read it a few years back. But I find I like listening to books I've already read. I pick up a lot of stuff that I either missed or forgotten. I'll start Blood Meridian next week. I let you know. Also, I just finished Playing for Pizza by John Grisham. I'm not into his regular books, but I like his side projects like The Painted House. I enjoyed Playing for Pizza, about a young, but washed-up NFL quarterback who goes to play for a football team in Italy.

Yeah, Bryson, Bryson, and more Bryson! :) I haven't actually read all of those Brysons yet. They're in my "To Read." I envy you having read the Shakespeare one; I only just found out about it yesterday and haven't had a chance to add it yet. I made one feeble attempt at Guns, Germs & Steel but got bogged down and threw it aside for a light British novel. Light British novels are the staff of life to me.

Admired your review of Ehrenreich's Bait & Switch. My favorite part was when the ditzoid "career coach" told her that she needed to improve her writing skills!
