    Jennifer,

Just wanted to let you know that I reversed Paul's decision to approve your edit to add 90 + contributors to http://www.shelfari.com/books/484376/Haiku-U-From-Aristotle-to-Zola-100-Great-Books-in-17-Syllables

These would be similar to adding contributors for each footnote added to a book. It messes up the author records for those "contributors" referenced. Only if this book was marked as derivative for each and every books (which cannot happen on Shelfari and would be inappropriate anyway), would those authors/writers be considered "contributors."

    OK?

    Thanks,

    DL aka BC

    Hi Jennifer,
it was this book : http://www.shelfari.com/books/5146427/Me-and-My-Shadow and the rest of that series.
I already have unchecked the public domain box, that is in the classifications section.
If you need any other clarification, don't hesitate to message me!

    Thanks,
    Bec

    Hi Jenifer,

I had just added a book that you edited a few months ago, and had noticed that you'd changed a few books to Public Domain. I'm just wondering why? As a book's author has the copyright for their life (and 70 years after they have died). I don't believe the books that you have changed, should be public domain.

Just didn't want you to think that I'd changed your edits for no reason.

    Good morning Jennifer,
A while back I worked on The Cat Who series and now receive notification when those titles are changed. Please refer to the post below which is on the Librarian & Editors group regarding classification numbers. You have changed some of those to an LC record ID number, as well as changing the first edition ISBN number to a more recent edition ISBN. Please review the information below. Thanks much. TL

Just a tip for those who are new to editing, and those who are not familiar with Library Classification schemes.

Shelfari records include "Classification" where the Library of Congress and Dewey Decimal classification number are entered. Another term for Classificiation Number is "Call number." The classification number is what you will more likely than not find on the lower spine of a book on real library shelves.

I've noticed many things entered in the Shelfari field for "Classification" that are not legitimate call numbers. Here's a brief clarification of what you should be looking for and entering.

    Library of Congress classification
uses a combination of letters and numbers and often has the year of publication included
    Example of a legitimate LC # F394.U75 V35 2010
Sometimes you'll come across an LC # that looks like this - 2009037970. This is NOT a LC Classification number. It is what is referred to as an assession number. If you are using the Library of Congress online catalog you will find the "Call number" near the middle of the "Brief Record" tab. The LC Record number near the top of the record is NOT the classification number.

    Dewey Decimal classification
uses numbers for non-fiction, and fiction is generally in the 800s (ex. 813.54) for classification as literature. Another designation you will see for this is Fic.
Sometimes with both "Cataloging in Publication" (the information on the back of the title page generally), and the Library of Congress online catalog you will find an entry that looks like this: 813.54 22. Or 813.54 dc22 There will be a space and then a 22, or 21..... The number after the space only refers to the edition of the Dewey Decimal classification that was used and is NOT part of the Dewey number.
    Example of a legitimate Dewey # 976.4'432

Hopefully that will help you decipher the information you find so it can be accurately incorporated into the shelfari records

Hi. I just wanted to call your attention to the fact that books with "Books LLC" on the cover are not usually a collection of books, but rather a collection of Wikipedia articles on the books. I rejected some of your requests to attribute authorship to several such "Books LLC" books recently. Hope this helps.

Hi Jennifer - I'm going through the Walt Disney Production contributor changes. While I'd prefer that combines had been done first, I'll approve these as appropriate. They sure are messy and I'm thankful that you've tackled them - not an easy task. I'd appreciate it if as part of your editing on those you look at the editions and put in necessary separation requests. Some of them include items that shouldn't have been combined. Thanks for your great work.

    Hi:
I have published three ebooks on Amazon Kindle, Smashwords, B&N, etc., and would be delighted if you would add one or more of these books to your TBR list. If you could also write a review, that would be super.

Ditto for all the soundtracks. Those are not audio books and really shouldn't even be on shelfari. Why are you working on those?

    Hi Jennifer
I'm working on your Contributor changes for the Disney books, and need you to explain to me what your trying to do. Two questions in particular - have you done combines for the titles (because there are several that look like they are redundant)? And, why did you change each individual Disney author instead of combining them and just changing one record?
