In the fifth installment of the Lucy Kincaid series, we're introduced to the world of FBI training in Quantico. It all started with a reporter's murder in New York City, a connection to an old case, and takes us back and forth to both places. When Lucy Kincaid's name pops up to connection to the murder, she's been reeled in to help with the case. Meanwhile, while she's still undergoing vigorous training as a FBI trainee, someone's making her nervous and has it in for her, while someone's targeting the FBI and infiltrated the FBI for all the wrong reasons. Things get serious, when one FBI dies and another one's injured. We really get inside the head of Lucy, when she deals with this crisis, while we flashback to Peter McMahon's life being stalked by two people, living on the run, and until present day. There's red hot chemistry between FBI Suzanne Madeaux and Joe De Lucca and great romance between Lucy and Sean Rogan. What a rush!

Welcome to the world of broadcast journalism. In Prime Time, Hank Phillippi Ryan's takes us inside Charlotte McNally's world. It all started with an email posing as spam. That hooked Charlie on the story of her lifetime to get ready for Sweeps week for her TV station. And when she digs deeper, she becomes embroiled into a bigger scheme. Right in the heart of danger, things are what they seem to be. It's up to her and Franklin to pick up the pieces and connects the dots to this big mystery. And with a side of humor, she gets introduced to Josh Gelston, a college professor, which starts her blooming romance with him. With the powers to be breathing down her neck, it's a race to the finish before they get out-scooped by the newspapers. Plenty of twists and turns in this book to keep you hooked into suspense and guessing to the end.

This is one of a growing number of non-fiction books that reads more like a fictional spy thriller than a dry college textbook commonly associated with non-fiction stories. Hunting Eichman has been written in an incredibly compelling manner with first person narratives and tremendous attention to detail that helps transport the reader through the horrors of the holocaust and into the thrilling adventure of the search, arrest and trial of Eichmann.

Be aware that there are certain stories that highlight the atrocities experienced by individuals in the story during the holocaust. Many are graphic in nature and can be difficult for some readers, especially younger readers. However, this is where the reader will build a stronger emotional connection with the story and its characters and makes what makes this story so compelling.

I would strongly recommend this for all readers. Not only is it a fascinating story, but it highlights a history that was almost lost at the price of millions of lives.

During my reading of the first two chapters of this book I was skeptical. The writing was atypical of most fictional books even with a subject matter that was odd. However, what this reader did not realize was that this story was securing a chain around my waist that kept me tied to this book until the very end. There were several times that I had to put the book down and literally stare at the wall to think through some idea the author put forth about pre-destination or chaos theory before I could continue. They were ideas that demanded thought which could not be done while reading simultaneously. They demanded their own careful consideration, and occasional mind explosions.

If you came only for the story you would walk away from this book quite satisfied. If you came for something larger, questioning the world around you amidst an interesting story you will be leave the table satiated and yet thinking of your next meal. While seemingly small in size, this book packs an emotional punch as well as an intellectual one that will have you waiting for the next installment.

Chessman, and his nine lives on death row is an interesting mix between a true story and fictional dialogue. This mix allows for both an education into significant events in this country and an easily readable story. This book draws the reader in and shares a story that taken as a whole educates on the multiple view points of the death penalty. Many times the media only focuses on the victims or the penal system and ignores the financial implications or even the prisoner themselves. While hard to have sympathy for a convicted criminal, there have been too many cases of incorrectly convicted individuals to not take this into consideration.

The author clearly has his own bias toward the issue of putting a prisoner to death, but still tries to treat the subject with as much of an even hand as possible. Readers will find this book to be easily readable even if the subject matter can be upsetting. I recommend approaching this book with not only the goal of learning about an interesting legal case but also examining our beliefs in how we should conduct justice.

A story with this depth would seem to many an insurmountable task, especially considering the dearth of documentation and corroborating information. Yet Emil Draitser, as a seasoned reporter, accomplished the impossible. This book reads halfway between a Cussler hero/spy novel filled with intrigue and dashing agents and a horrifying expose into prisoner/torture camps. Accomplishing both in a condensed book is a work of art that deserves to be recognized. While the second half of the book while he is in prison is sometimes painful to read, it would benefit all to understand the history of what once was one of the most powerful countries and individuals in the world. A readable book at all levels I strongly recommend it to all readers.

Wow. Rarely have I encountered a book that sends the reader on more of an emotional roller coaster turns than Unbroken. The emotions that it wrought from exhilaration during his early amazing accomplishments on the track to the unbelievable anger when faced with the utter brutality of the Japanese during the war were ever-present. I will caution readers that trying to find a good place to put this book down to go to sleep or eat a meal will be quite difficult. This story almost seems too unbelievable, too sensational to believed and yet with the extensive validation by multiple sources it is indeed what Louis went through. Hillenbrand did a tremendous job weaving all the sources together to build a compelling and fascinating story. On the surface this is an extremely readable book by any reader; emotionally it is quite advanced. Readers are advised that while I think it is a tremendous book on survival of the spirit it is an emotionally tough book.

The toughest work of any author is to transport a reader into a foreign world and make them feel at home. To teach a language which will then enable them to understand a story of either education or entertainment. While this story certainly educated to what life is like in many Wall Street firms I will confess that the intricacies and explanations of the financials were beyond even this reader. I believe most readers will find entire pages of explanations to be as confusing as advanced particle physics textbooks.

With that said, this book from a pure entertainment value did share one man's experiences in a rapid pace format. Moving beyond the sections that attempted to explain the intricacies of the exchange market, this was a story of a man chasing a dream and finding the pitfalls in that journey. Perhaps quite biased (although who among us can claim to be completely unbiased when looking back upon their own life) he paints a very vivid picture easily imagined.

As a final note, readers should also be advised that the author can be extremely crass and vulgar throughout the story. Perhaps that is the world that was Wall Street in the 80s and 90s but readers should be prepared.

tPA for Stoke is a deceptively small book. It is packed with information and a tremendous history of both the disease and the medication all inside a very readable fascinating story. There are a few sections that contain medical terminology but they are few and far between and well explained. Most readers should have absolutely no problem following the story and understanding the history of tPA.

I feel that Simmons and Zivin did an extremely fair job disclosing the debate that has raged in professional communities about tPA and shown equal weight to all arguments. Thankfully with the benefit of hindsight the 'right' answer is thankfully quite clear. As the third highest cause of death in this country, killing 30% of those who get a stroke, it will unfortunately touch virtually everyone. Learning more about it perhaps will allow you to spot warning signs faster and know what to ask your doctor. If that wasn't enough, it is a fascinating story of the mysterious process of drugs from research, to clinical trials and ultimately to patients.

In any autobiography one might need to excuse a different level of storytelling as the author struggles to put an entire life into a logical and readable story when they are so close to the subject matter. Unlike other books you have read you might find this one a little disjointed with major topics brought up and just as quickly dismissed within the course of a few sentences. Some of these topics could and potentially should have been expanded to build a more complete and holistic view of life. Frequently he would start a topic and say he would come back to it later, and unfortunately not always actually return to it. When you have so many ideas in your head perhaps this is what happens.

Overall this book shares an extremely interesting story of what it was like behind the iron curtain. This is not a perspective commonly seen and thus worth a read especially as individuals with first hand knowledge of communism are aging out of our population. The challenges in the writing may throw some readers, but if you can look past them you will be rewarded with a new perspective on the political system.
