If you want a preview you it you can at http://thechosenonesseries.com/
Jennifer, thanks for the help in deciding whether to abandon The Host and move on- I am glad to know that there is still something of a sci-fi finish, so for now I will press on with it, but maybe do more skimming when it doesn't grab on to me. I appreciate your help! Wishing you good books!
I need help with "The Host"- you have a recent review, so I hope you don't mind!
Reading The Host- about 60% complete according to my Kindle- at the place where Jared realizes that Mel is still "there" and Ian confesses for than feelings of friendship towards Wanda. It is kind of dragging (well- REALLY dragging for me, I think because it has turned into a romantic triangle deal and lost some (most) of the science fiction/fantasy edge to it... I don't want to stop reading The Host if there is more than just primarily romance ahead- but if that is all that is left (a romantic triangle story), my bookshelf is calling! WIthout giving anything away, should I keep reading?
Well I personally hated the twilight series and believe it is the worst piece of 'literature' I've ever laid eyes on.
To put it lightly. :) So I'm glad it was different.
When I read the Host (before twilight) I had so much hope for Meyer as a Sci-Fi author. She sadly let me down. :(
How are you liking it? :)
Welcome to the group based on the book 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die.
There is a general explanation of the group under the discussion thread GROUP GUIDELINES. The past BOTM can be found pinned to the top for 2010 and 2009 if you want to search discussions you can join in. It will bring the discussions forward if you do.
The books of the month (BOTM) that the group is reading are pinned to the top. July’s BOTMwill be The Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger, Frankenstein by Mary Shelley and Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck. The questions will be posted the first of the month.
We are also starting something new. It will be a Long Read consisting of books from the list that are greater than a 1000 pages. The group will be starting with War and Peace by Tolstoy.
~ Morning Prayer ~
Let me today do something that shall take
A little sadness from the world's vast store,
And may I be so favored as to make
Of joy's too scanty sum a little more.
Let me not hurt, by any selfish deed
Or thoughtless word, the heart of foe or friend;
Nor would I pass, unseeing, worthy need,
Or sin by silence when I should defend.
However meager be my worldly wealth
Let me give something that shall aid my kind,
A word of courage, or a thought of health,
Dropped as I pass for troubled hearts to find.
Let me tonight look back across the span
'Twixt dawn and dark, and to my conscience say -
Because of some good act to beast or man -
"The world is better that I lived today."
Ella Wheeler Wilcox
Hey Big Blue Eyes! How are things goin? You read The Shack? I've been meaning to read that one myself.
Just finished reading The Amaranth Enchantment by Julie Berry. LOVED it! Kind of a spin-off of a Cinderella tale but to me much more entertaining. I gave it five stars and put it as a favorite! It was that good!! Now I am reading Coffeehouse Angel by Suzanne Selfors.
