I was lucky enough to have worked as an extra in the tv series when they filmed in and around Salt Lake City, Utah; I had an extravagant and time consuming make-up job done on my face when I played a dying lab scientist; it was filmed in the Veteran's hospital near the University of Utah; great fun; I actually spent a little time hanging out with Stephen, as he was very gregarious and approachable and full of stories-as one might imagine he would; I was impressed by his presence and charmed by his acerbic sense of humor, yet amiable and agreeable manner; funny thing though; I couldn't get through the book at that time; too distracted and, yes, a bit dry and drawn out in places; but when I finally forced myself to read this voluminous work; it became my favorite book of all his; and, yes, the mini-series was qujite well done, I thought; I ended up on the editor rooms floor, though; sad but true.
