The ending was really good and much better than in the anime. The explanation really did convince me this time and, unlike in the anime, the writer didn't seem to be "helping" Near achieve the desired conclusions.

I very much liked the Epilogue also, where they delineate the difference between Light and a normal person.

Five stars. One of my favorite series of all time.

This is an odd manga. Having been made after the original run of the anime, it still doesn't seem to get the characters' personalities. Not only that, the character designs are a bit weird as well. Spike's hair and eyes suffered the most dramatic change. From the opaque and tired eyes from the anime, Spike has become a cheerful and lively Bebop cowboy. The atmosphere is different: everyone appears to be happy and talkative. In the anime, OTOH, everyone (except for Ed) was generally silent (but not unnecessarily deep and unfunny).

This an OK manga. It carries the Cowboy Bebop brand, but actually it isn't it. Just recycled character designs making for a different kind of story.

Ok, Shelfari should allow me to add books. Now I can't add the entire Gunnm series. At least it's not that great anyway.

I'm not usually into dystopian stories, but this one managed to captivate me until this point.

I'm reading the Brazilian version, so I can count on the reliability of the translation, that, unlike the US trans, doesn't randomly change characters' and places' names.

Well, overall, the only reservation I have concerning this manga is with its battle scenes, which are rather confusing. The style is pretty solid throughout the book and the author doesn't seem to be just lazy drawing.

I'll have to read the other volumes to reach a better conclusion about the story. But from what I've seen, at least the action and violence won't disappoint me (if sometimes confusing, but we can work this out).

Well, I can't say I read it this time. I freaking memorized the damn book. I was translating it, for chrissakes. I had to read it like five times to make sure it didn't look crappy.

  • Yuyu Hakusho Vol. 19 (Yuyu Hakusho) (in Japanese)
    • Rated 5 stars

In my list of Yu Yu Hakusho books, I gave priority to search results that actually *have* a cover, even if it's in Japanese. I mean, seriously, Shelfari, improve that damn search engine. It sucks. Besides, we want to be able to edit the books availble. It's ugly to have a lot of books which are not on our language *and* do not have even a cover.

Well, anyway, I really liked Yu Yu Hakusho and wonder why I'd waited for so long to read it. It's plain awesome. The characters are better constructed than in many novels, and this is a shonen manga we're talking about. The stories are technique-centered instead of power-centered, which only adds to the attractiveness of the battles. And the end, which is the concern of this volume, is great. It's well developed and interesting. The characters have endings just the way they should have. Now, I haven't watched the anime, but if it's half as good, it's already great.

It is said that Yoshihiro Togashi was pressured to make another story arc after the defeat of Toguro, and it's also said that the following saga is much worse than the previous, displaying overrall laziness, etc. But I couldn't detect any of that. Perhaps because of the style of the manga, I couldn't see any signs of laziness. Actually, the series appeared to me as surprisingly well drawn and written, even towards the end. That's odd in a manga of this type, because as the series gets longer, it tends to contradict itself. But here, the story doesn't have any (at least blatant) contradictions, and it's rather well closed.

    Five stars for sure.

I really wish I could put a cover on this manga.

Since I can't find an English (or a Brazilian!) edition of the manga, I'll just add the Japanese. Fuck it.

    Yu Yu Hakusho, Vol. 4

I'm gonna be a fanboy of this manga in no time. I had some prejudice against Yu Yu Hakusho in the beggining 'cause it seemed rather bizarre, there was a guy with three eyes, another one sucking a pacifier, they had weird hairs. Thus, I never saw any episode of the anime. But the opinion of some trustworthy people counts and I decided to give a chance to them manga. Well, turns out I'm became a fan of bizarreness in mangas (I turned into a full-fledged fanboy of Dragon Ball). And Yu Yu Hakusho is funny and has good fights, what else could I ask for?
