I read 2-3 books a month, and have typically read non-fiction and memoirs. Recently I joined a book club focusing on fiction, and I have loved discovering new books.

Books already on my physical shelf are listed under "I plan to read," while books I'm interested in but don't yet own are listed under "wish list."

  • Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life

This was the first book on writing that I read once I committed to writing, and I refer to if often. I gleaned a lot of practical wisdom from this book, such as always carrying around something to write with for when you are inspired by a phrase or idea. Now I always have a pen and small notebook in my purse. I also used to hate writing drafts, but she really knocked into me the importance of writing the "shitty first draft."

I read this because Stephen Lawhead is one of my husband's favorite fantasy writers, and when you're married you do things like read books that your spouse likes. It was the first fantasy book I'd ever read, and I really enjoyed the story.

I never thought I was a fan of fantasy books, but I really enjoyed this one. It was playful and intriguing. I would recommend this to others.

As soon as she can sit through it, I'll be reading this book to my daughter.

A very morose book - not something you'd want to read for entertainment.

This was a quick, easy read. I found it slightly disturbing, in that it greatly challenged all of my comforts. I've long associated tree huggers, social justice advocates, and those who live in poverty by choice as liberal left wingers who leave God out of the equation. It was really a trip to hear a Biblical pastor I know and trust discuss these same issues, challenging me that the kingdom of heaven should motivate us to live differently. I recommend it.

I love this book as a great, short, adaptation to read to my 2 and 4 year old. They love the pictures, and it is just short enough that it keep their interest. Can't wait to read the next two books in the series!

A self-centered search. A pointless book. Do not read this.

My therapist gave me the emotional maturity test from this book, and I found it very useful in helping me get through some hard communication issues. When I went back to read the entire book, I think I read it too fast to let it sink in (one sitting in one day - I was sick). I would like to go back through it, chapter by chapter.
