I live in Australia and am an avid romance reader. I'm always looking for 'recommended reads'. I've discovered some of my favourite books this way. I write romance novels for Harlequin Mills & Boon. A list of my books can be found at my website at http://www.jennieadams.net where I also have a blog page.

The Soldier's Homecoming by Donna Alward
    Harlequin Romance March 2008

Through a serendipitous mailing glitch, I got my hands on an early copy of Donna Alward's 'The Soldier's Homecoming' and last night I gave myself a treat and sat down and read it. The story of Jonas and Shannyn hits all the right emotional notes. He's a man who's given himself to the service of his country. She's the woman he left behind. It's young love and growing up into love and a very relatable, believable story. Tissues will be required when this book hits the shelves in March, and the online stores in February.

Reunion stories are not usually my first choice in personal reading, but this story pulled me in on every level. The characters had an edge of that made them feel very, very real, and the conflicts were well drawn. I enjoyed the story very much.

This book had an interesting plot. I can see why readers would have enjoyed the book, but for some reason it didn't do it for me personally.

  • Scandal's Daughter (Berkley Sensation)

Scandal's Daughter is one of the most well-rounded, appealing historical romances I've read. I felt I understood Scovy completely, even when he acted his worst. Gemma was so right for him - they just had to get together! The secondary characters supported the story beautifully, and I came away at the end feeling I understood families and all their struggles and love and machinations that little bit better. I look forward to reading more Christine Wells stories.

    Vixen

    by Jane Feather

I've read a number of Jane Feather books and really enjoyed them. I enjoyed the characters in Vixen, too. The roles of ward and guardian aren't uncommon in an historical romance plot but I have to confess in this case I came away feeling uneasy about that age gap and their roles in relation to each other, perhaps because the heroine came across as so very young and having been cloistered all her life, and the hero as though he gave into his desire for her a little too easily? Nevertheless the characters were beautifully drawn and I found myself 'in their corner' even in the face of my misgivings - something that for me definitely denotes great writing!

I have also read Ally's Sexy Sensation book 'Getting Down To Business', but it's not available for listing. Wish Shelfari gave access to amazon.co.uk as well as amazon.com! Younger feel characters aren't the easiest sell to me, but Ally's storytelling drew me in and I was pleased to see Abby and Flynn find their Happy Ever After.

One of the things that intrigued me about this story was the war between the hero's commitment to do the job he had agreed to do, and what his heart wanted. Really enjoyed the book!

Enjoyable! And I had to know that the young duke, Robert, was going to be safe in the end.

I couldn't quite take to this heroine, but the hero had great qualities.
