“John Taylor goes club hopping.. and his reputation goes before him, and that's fine but every single time?
In this installment, the detective is hired by Nightside's most famous human immortal to find his missing granddaughter before time runs out on a deal he made a long time ago. But nothing is ever like it seems in Nightside.
I liked this book, but I wanted to like it more. Mr. Green writes a world that I'd love to look at from a very safe distance, but there is no way I'd ever want to visit, not even with the very dangerous Mr. Taylor by my side. Because, John Taylor isn't all that dangerous at all. He just lets everyone think he is.
That's part of the reason I like the character and part of the reason he's becoming a bit of a bore. I want him to do something, use those powers and be a little more edgy, bad, or just nuts. But, the author leaves that up to the supporting cast of characters like Dead Boy, Suzie Shooter and Alex Morrissey, my particular favorite, to add flavor to the mix.
That being said, Hell To Pay is a great book, if it leaves some of the best bits to the reader's imagination. Sometimes, I do want to see the really gory parts, and I wouldn't mind a little romance every once in a while, just for kicks. Then again, I am a girl.
