For me, literature is all about beauty. I look for beauty in the way the words come together, in the way ideas grow and develop, and in the way the work changes and influences me. I find rewards in a few key genres, including contemporary fiction, classic fiction, historical fiction, kids' lit, philosophy, and spiritual lit.

I'm reading it right now as a guilty pleasure--found it randomly at Borders. Sometimes I read books based merely on the title. I was half (or maybe completely) joking when I recommended it to you. You will no doubt find it puerile and offensive (because it is), as do most of the reviewers I've read, although almost everyone will admit it's hilarious:) If you like Bukowski you'll like this book, the literary equivalent of a greasy hamburger.

I'm so sorry for the delay. We were talking about Lily Burana. I've been preoccupied with a new job and sorely neglecting everything else. She speaks to me not through her writing style, necessarily, but quirky simplistic things. She is a few years older but we both went through the punk/alternative scene, she's an urban artist with a western background, (I'm an artist with a very liberal outlook who grew up influenced by my dad being a bull rider), and is sexually open but steeped in a religious background. (Her sister is a minister, my mom is a pastor of a Congregational church.) All of those are strange combinations not likely found in one person, (who isn't from Austin, TX.) :) Thanks for asking. What are you reading at the moment? I just finished THe Reader and was blown away.

Lily Burana is, I have to say, the writer who speaks to me most personally. I was horrified to find out what her topic is, but I can't wait to read it. I live in a town with two huge military bases and find it so hard to understand how people choose that option for themselves. I almost don't want to read I Love a Man In Uniform because I know I'll develop some sort of empathy. ;) Thanks for the review.

Thanks so much for sending me to your review of "The Seamstress". If the book is anywhere as good as your review lets on, I am in for a treat!
I received this book as a gift and was a little unsure. Now I am looking forward to it. Thanks!!
