I love to read.. all sorts of books... Historical fiction and Biographies are favourites.
I love to own books so that I can read at my leisure and not feel pressured.
My idea of a good day out is a book shop and a coffee..

I set myself a goal at the beginning of each year as to how many books I would like to read.. but as I... more »

This was a good book.. I enjoyed the characters and the stories of past and present. There were a few times when it was a little bogged down with detail. Overall I enjoyed it

Set in Michigan in the Depression, the story is told from the point of view of 10 year old Bud. It was an interesting read but might appeal more to younger readers.

As a big fan of Water For Elephants, I was very excited at the idea of reading Ape House. However it did not reach my expectations. I felt that in a lot of ways this book was under developed and that the human characters were fairly insipid and poorly constructed. I continued to read this as I wanted to find out what would happen to the Apes. However I found the ending unsatisfying and a little bit too convenient and neatly wrapped up.

I really enjoyed the characters in this novel. It is a story about African Americans in 1930's. Each chapter is almost its own entity but at the same time they are linked.

I loved it. I looked forward to picking it back up and regretted having to put it down. The complicated relationships of the characters was interesting. The dramas of each ones individual families were well written and intriguing. I love this authors style of writing and how she develops plots and characters.

This is a GREAT book. What an inspiration. It would be such a difficult life to lead in Gaza without all the tragedy in his life.

I have to admit that I did not read the entire book. The accounts by some of the "Sisters" I found to be a bit boring.. and on the other hand others were very entertaining.
