Michael Crichton is a favorite author and while this is not my favorite (Airframe is), it is very good. Quick read, a little raunchy in places, but not offensive.

Excellent character development through the thoughts and voices of Arthur Opp, a morbidly obese former professor, and Arthur 'Kel' Keller, son of a former student of Opp. I found all of the characters endearing for different reasons. Good read.

Good plot. It's challenging at first to keep track of all the characters and understand the historical characters. Stick with it and it will become clearer. Interesting historical scenarios - which I will look into the situations to learn more about them. I missed the "magic" in Shelley for Max and that he never revealed his true self to her while they were married. I could understand her attaction to him, but not his to her.

This is an interesting twist a parental abduction of a child. The father writes the story what he and his daughter did during their disappearance as an apology to his estranged wife.

I had no clue what this book was really about before I began reading it. It was recommended to me because it takes place in Italy and a friend thought I would enjoy it. There were many, many characters who appear at various points in their lives. It isn't clear until well into the book how the characters come together, but it does. I read others complain about how the author reveals the outcomes of some of the minor characters toward the end. I rather liked that treatment because it was in keeping with the theme of the story on life's choices and the paths people take.

Read to the end to figure out who did what and mostly liked the book. I struggled with the place in time for the various chapters. There is a series of 'today at (timestamp)' and then the rest of the story is at various other past times. The author also includes some obvious foreshadowing. I think this story would make a good movie.

This book has murder mystery, a modicum of supernatural, high school personas to shed, friendship, twin sibling dynamics, romance, social stratas, self awareness and realization, coming home, parental conflict all set in a small NC town. Tidy and sweet ending. Feel good book.

This book hooked me early and held my interest to the very unsatisfying end.

This was my second time reading Murakami. The first was the Windup Bird Chronicle. I am amazed at the clarity of the scenes and while sometimes tedious, it reminds of people's natural tendency for ruminating on important life events as new situations present themselves. There was also a curious focus on womens' breasts... author fetish?

Wish I hadn't seen the movie before reading the book.
