    Hello Graham

I agree with you the book is very touching. By reading this book the readers will also be shocked of the methods of controlling the mentally ill at that time; especially a person like Frances who was gifted & intelligent & had almost everything in life. I cried a little bit ha-haha, the illustration about the healing of love and friendship emphasized the strenght of the human spirit. Graham thanks for sharing this book.

    Hi Graham,

I will send you one of my senior pictures as soon as I can. I'm probably going to scan it into this computer today, to be able to do so. It has both my sister and I kneeling on the ground with our arms around each other. Seeing it, you will probably see more resemblance. I always laugh when I look at the Grounds Crew picture, because Rachael (in the middle) has such a funny face, her smile in that particular pictures makes her look like a chipmunk, hehe. I miss both her and Hannah dearly, as they made my summer so much easier, accepting me for who I was, when no one else did, strengthening my relationship with God, and being dear friends to me all summer. I am going to try calling them again soon. They're hard to get a hold of, because they're also very busy with work and college life (Rachael's working instead of going to school this year and Hannah is going to school all the way back home for her, in South Carolina; she came up to North Dakota this summer only to work), but when I do, I find I can fill them in very quickly in a short period of time, about how I've been doing, which is nice.

This morning, after I went in the hot tub yesterday, I'm actually sore. It's not so much the shooting pain or tingly feeling anymore, but now I feel like I did 100 sit-ups or something and muscles along my sides are sore. It's rather strange, and pretty annoying, as it's hard to get up from sitting, especially in hard chairs. In padded chairs, it's easier, like in my stepdad's computer chair I'm sitting in right now. But maybe since it's more sore now, rather than painful, it means this is getting better? I'll give my chiropractor a call tomorrow or Tuesday and I'll see what he says. I don't want to go back into him, but I'm curious to see what he says to this new thing.

I don't really remember a lot about my parents being together originally, probably because my mom spent most of my life moving around, trying to find some place where she is finally settled, which is here in Medora. I think she is finally settled down for good, she was always very unsettled and that didn't help my sister and I at all, with moving around and such. My senior year, it was a very good decision for us to live with my dad full-time, as it offered us the most stability we had ever had. It was my best high school year, grades-wise, because I wasn't losing any homework and such. When I went out to my mom's alternatively, I was always forgetting homework or possessions.

Oh, I just remembered, if you're interested in seeing some more pictures of me (and other people and artwork), go here: http://renthead07.deviantart.com/gallery. I'm not exactly thrilled over most of the pictures (like I said, I don't really like candid pictures, I'm more of a spontaneous picture person), but sooner or later, I am going to put the senior picture of my sister and me on there. You do have to be a member to leave comments, so don't worry about leaving comments or anything. I'll let you know when I've put my other senior picture on there, so you can see it. For whichever pictures you want to see, full view is usually recommended, you can click the picture to get full view.

I agree with you on seeing ourselves as younger than we are. I think the reason I feel a few years younger than I am is, around the time I turned 14, I started becoming really insecure about growing up and becoming independent, probably because of how much I had to be cared for when I was younger, due to my seizures, so I became really nervous about turning 18 and graduating from high school and entering college and living independently. It's better now, but I still sometimes feel really dependent on my parents, as much as I'm trying to learn not to have to be.

With The One That Got Away, I make up each chapter as I go. Sometimes I just write and write, if I find I can't stop at some point; so once I do find a stopping point, I split it into chapters, averaging about 6 pages per chapter (which, of course, makes anything longer than that look really long on the site.) I never have a complete outline of my stories, which makes for writer's block to be a huge pain. I'm not exactly in a block right now, I just need a little extra assistance from other writers I don't normally correspond with or beta for. My normal beta's parents are visiting her at her college for the next three days, so she will be busy with that, but we are planning on talking Tuesday morning next. What I need to learn to do is write or type up the entire story before posting it on that site, so my readers don't have to wait for updates (which I haven't learned to do yet, LOL, so they're waiting for an update I haven't even started yet, as we speak.) I know what I want to happen, I just don't know how I can work it out- marriages (right before Katie's wedding, her father is going to die of a heart attack and she will have to attend his funeral after the wedding and postpone the honeymoon), moving into houses, kids... I'll have to keep thinking about it until something comes to mind and works out. I don't want anything to seem forced or unrealistic.

Since my stepdad is still gone hunting, my sister slept with my mom last night, leaving the sofa bed open for Michele, so she was able to stay with us last night, since she never did connect with her friend, but for a few hours Friday night and Saturday morning. She said his boss was coming to see him, so she didn't have permission to stay at the house he was renting. I wish she had figured all this out before I'd brought her out here. Not to sound selfish or anything, but if I'd known things with her were so... uncoordinated, I might have given it second thoughts about bringing her out with me.

It does seem like a good idea to switch to email with you, Graham. You are the only person I have been corresponding with via this site in the past six months or so, anyway, so it wouldn't be a bad idea. I do have you added as a safe sender, so everything you send should go through. It sounds like a good idea. I will still be around Shelfari occasionally, to update my profile and possibly my shelf, but I don't add books or rate books anymore, due to lack of time. So yes, email sounds like a good idea.

Have a great day and start to the week,

    Hi Graham,

No, my chiropractor wasn't helpful at all. A few people I know are recommending I change chiropractors to a woman who does both chiropractic and massage. I will talk to my stepmom about it first, to see what she says. She often goes to this chiropractor who isn't helping me much, so I don't know if she would agree or disagree on me changing.

My mom does care for my sister, she doesn't neglect her, but just the... interactive things she does with her and such are sometimes at the absolute minimum. I know perfectly well that the reason my sister always starts yelling and getting upset about having to go back to my dad's after visiting my mom, is she most likely knows this is the only time she gets to see my mom, and so when my mom doesn't spend much time with her even while she's out here, she wants to stay and spend time with her and doesn't want to go back to my dad's, because she sees him every day.

Ha, yes, you're right, I am an adult, aren't I? Sometimes, and this may sound strange, even though I'm 19, I don't feel like one... I mean, I'm technically still a teenager, so...

I'm probably going to update The One That Got Away sometime today with chapter 6, which has Katie and Melanie both being proposed to by Mark and Roger. Then I'm going to do their weddings, and right before Katie's wedding, her dad is going to die of a heart attack (my friend in real life, Katie, is who this character is based on) and she's going to have to fly back home after the wedding to make funeral arrangements and have the funeral and such. Then after that, I am considering skipping five years or so, in order to have Melanie and Roger's daughter, Madeline, old enough to meet her biological older sister, Brianna, whom Melanie had to give up for adoption back in Light In Your Eyes (I'm so sorry, I neglected to tell you that The One That Got Away is a sequel! In case you get confused about what's going on in The One That Got Away, I suggest reading Light In Your Eyes first, that will catch you up. Yes, I often alter my Fan Fiction profile, I don't like keeping things on it the same for long.

I had a friend come out to Medora with me last night. Her phone quit working on our way out, even though she had two bars of battery left, and she didn't bring her charger, so she wasn't able to try that to make it work. She went to a friends' house. but her friend wasn't there (and her friend's dad didn't know where she was), so she went to another friend's house, and he was there, but since his boss was coming over for whatever reason, Michele wasn't able to stay with him. I guess she went back to her other friends' place and stayed the night with just a pillow and blanket. I would have let her stay at my mom's, but we have no room. I don't know what she's planning on doing this weekend with her friends, but I'm taking her back to campus with me Sunday sometime. I just hope she figures out someone to stay with today and tomorrow. Otherwise, last night, I was worried about her. I didn't know where she figured out to stay and such. She's with me now, but there's nothing to do, so I'm afraid I'm not good company. I hope things work out for her soon.

    Have a good weekend,

    Hi Graham,

Ice really helps, although since I'm never supposed to put the pack directly on my skin, sometimes it feels like it isn't cold enough through my shirt to be effective at lessening the inflammation. It doesn't help to press it down because that doesn't allow me to relax. My chiropractor said it was SI, but although he told me the actual term, I can't remember (I don't think I could pronounce it if I did.) I believe SI is just inflammation, which may become chronic. I still don't really know what's going on. I was only in with him for about 10 minutes, in which he put on ice packs and lined me back up a little (things weren't that out of place as it were), and then sent me off with the same words of wisdom. It was hardly worth the visit. I don't know what else to do.

My sister has cerebral palsy, so she, like you, cannot use her right hand. I have noticed, with you and her, that possibly the inability to use the right hand may be a pattern? I've read that CP is caused by oxygen deprivation at birth, but if it is, I wonder why I don't have any form of it? I only have a learning disability, which I have worked hard my whole life to overcome or work with or around. My sister is two minutes older than me. When I go to my mom's tonight, I will look on my stepdad's computer for a recent picture of us and I'll email it to you. I don't think we look anything alike, but that's probably just me. My dad is the only person who wants to care for my sister, as my mom insists on helping us to the minimum, and my stepmom is often busy with her own life and issues, although she helps a great deal whenever possible. My stepdad does not take care of my sister at all, because he's so wrapped up in his job and himself, but I prefer to it myself than have him do so.

Sorry, I didn't mean for what I said about you being a year younger to come across like it might have (making you feel ancient.) I should have thought of some other way to say it. If I offended you, my apologies. You are one of my closest adult friends. Ha, you find me entertaining, do you? :)

I have not a clue what the upcoming essay subject will be, although judging by what notes we've taken so far, I'm guessing it may be something like extended definition, as that's our current subject we're talking about.

If you are going to read a story of mine through the weekend, I suggest you read The One That Got Away (Rent), which I will be updating by the end of the weekend at the most. I don't know what other of my stories I would recommend, besides The One That Got Away, Light in Your Eyes, Deviant Beauty, and The Perfect Fan (all Rent) are some of my best stories, all Rent. You can choose, of course, to read any story you want. If you would like, you can leave an anonymous review by using the drop-down menu in the bottom left hand corner of each chapter, but that's up to you. I believe I do accept anonymous reviews, so in order to leave one, you don't have to be a FFN member.

I'm glad your desk move went well. I hope the Outlook Mailbox transfer works out. I have to go to PLab, three people that I know of are performing today for us (their peers) and a few of the music professors and teachers, and the chair of the music department is there as well for each performance.

Talk to you more this weekend,

    Hi Graham,

I am going to mention SI (chronic inflammation, I think is what that is) and the possibility of a pinched nerve to my chiropractor tonight, to see if he includes massage in his practice or if he knows anything about those and if that's the problem. If he cannot figure out how to fix whatever it is, I'm not sure what else to do. My dad doesn't think consulting an actual medical doctor will do anything, although I won't say no to a massage therapist, if I can find a good one. I'll let you know how it goes tonight.

That sounds so scary about how you got epilepsy and the story behind your right hand. I admire you for finding ways to cope with it and work around it. You're a year younger than my dad.

Before we were finished with our most recent essay, the one I had such trouble with, she did say our assignments were going to come more frequently. She gives us notes and lectures before we get to prepare for the essay, and we do usually get a week or more to do it, so it's not like we should be unprepared. I wasn't, I did have all my content, just too much and not the right format. I will make sure I know exactly what to do for this next one, whenever the time for it to be assigned comes.

I'm honored to include you in my Fan Fiction profile, Graham. Which of my stories did you look at? That site lets the reader of the profile organize the stories in different ways, such as Category, Published, Updated, etc. If you click on Updated, you should see my most recent Rent WIP I'm working on right now. I'm just about ready to post chapter 6 for it. I only need to read and add in what my best friend, Katie, katetastic on my favorite authors' list, is writing for it, and then I will be ready to post, hopefully by this weekend when I'm at my mom's. I've always been a very visual learner when it comes to writing, so it really bothers me when I read stories that have good content, but are lacking or terrible in grammar, spelling, and punctuation areas. Especially if the author chooses to ignore or lash out at me for making comments about that (which has happened), I will usually stop reading the story and forget about it. If an author can't take my critique, which I try to make well-rounded (although it sometimes may not be, if I get picky), then I'm not going to waste my time reading their trash, and I will tell them so. If you're interested, I'm also currently working on a Due South fan fiction, which should be right below the Rent WIP, if you list the stories by Updated. I'm going to post another chapter for that as soon as I hear back suggestions from my beta, Niente Zero. I'm not confident enough with the chapter to post until I hear back from her, though.

I hope your desk move happens when it's convenient for you!

I'm off to go do some math homework and double-check that my music theory homework is all done for tomorrow, before going to the chiropractor tonight. My appointment is in about an hour. Have a great evening.

    Hi Graham,

I am going back to the chiropractor tomorrow evening to see if he can re-align something that may be out of place. With the table I lay on, it is built to move with what he puts back into place, to prevent further injury, so I heard that and whenever he asked me, at my first appointment that one time, if I heard something go back into place, I couldn't say I did, LOL. I hope it turns out to be something he can fix, because if it isn't, I'm not sure what to do. Tomorrow, all day, I am going to log what I do (class, homework, etc.) and what I sit in (some of the hard chairs aggravate my back terribly, no matter how well I sit in them), to see if I can tell him that and he can pinpoint even further what might be the cause of my pain. I'm sitting now and it's almost nonexistant, but I'm sitting in a padded chair in the library. It may turn out to be something he can't fix, he is open with me about that, and tension may be adding to it, as tension physically impacts me. I'll let you know how that goes.

I didn't get a chance to talk to my English professor today, as her lecture ran the entire hour. I am going to make sure I know exactly what she wants on the next essay, so I don't get docked any points for the wrong format or something. She was nice and gave me a middle B grade on the essay I did the wrong format in and had too much information (not necessarily my fault, but it's irrelevant now.)

I didn't know about your right hand. I'm sorry to hear that. If I may ask, what kind of accident was it? I realize that's probably a very personal question, so if you don't wish to answer, don't, it's totally fine, of course I won't mind. I think, for only typing with one hand, you do extremely well! If you had not told me that, I would never have guessed!

Yes, the Foundation is in control of tourism, what goes on in the town to attract it and such. That's basically it. I love visiting zoos, except sometimes it makes me sad to see exotic animals, like snowy owls and tigers, caged. But I do enjoy them, the walking around and being outside part especially.

My dad doesn't think an actual doctor can solve my back problem. I agree, I think they would tell me it just will take time and I will need to make some modifications (like no carrying) and stretching and heat and ice, and send me off and bill us for just that. That's my guess, anyway. Unless they have machines that show inflammation of muscles or something wrong with the nerves? That would be helpful to show what's wrong, I think, but I don't think there is such a thing. So that's why I'm going to the chiropractor tomorrow, to see what he thinks or if he finds anything. A massage therapist would be my next idea, but besides an old neighbor I had once (several years ago), I don't know any in town, I would have to look and see if she's still in business. If she is, I'm definitely going to her, as I've been to her before and would trust her more than any new massage therapist.

My dad books hotels online all the time, too. He has grown to know how online retail and such works, so he's comfortable with it. I, probably out of ignorance on the subject, am not, although I won't say no to being safely educated about it.

You say the live show of "Mamma Mia!" is the best (I thought about going to see it in NYC, as my mom and I arrived on the 28th in time to see a show that evening, but decided not to, as we were tired and just wanted to chill in our hotel on Times Square), but I may have to see the movie just to see if I really do like it, or just the songs. I'll try to rent it sometime.

Yes, we split wood with a machine, so only the stacking of the wood itself in the shed was exhausting. No, we didn't use an axe. That would have been awful.

I don't know when our next essay in English will be assigned, but I'm assuming it will be after our most recent notes are finished being taken (I suspect she will spring it on us Friday or so.) I am going to try my best to be 100% sure next time of what she wants, whenever that is.

Yes, I write fan fiction. I usually write Rent and Strong Medicine, although I have done a couple Charmed, Heartland (book series), and such in the past. I'm currently working on a Rent sequel and a Due South parent story. I'm putting off the Due South story, though, because lately I have been having brilliant brainwaves about the Rent story. My profile and stories can be found here, if you're interested: http://www.fanfiction.net/u/452402/Renthead07 Of course, my profile there is even longer than my one here! LOL.

I have had a busy day today, too! Mondays and Wednesdays are always my busiest days. My two hour break was not long at all. Tomorrow, I have about four hours to do homework and relax and such. I'm looking forward to it, and maybe a nice nap. We'll see. I usually find I barely have enough daytime to do things and often spend my evenings doing homework, instead of going out with my friends.

    Have a good evening!

As I look at you tonight

Soft moonlight on your face oh how you shine
    It takes my breath away
Just to look into your eyes
    I know I don't deserve a treasure like you
    There really are no words
    To show my gratitude

I tip my hat to the keeper of the stars

    Hi Graham,

I wouldn't call my books 'bricks', although my math one is heavy. The others are all right, although none of them are 'light.' I have a backpack, although I have a separate messenger bag I could use... But would I use both at once? That would look strange, I would think, plus I would guess it would put extra weight on one side, rather than equal distribution.

I believe she wanted us to choose, say, three topics to talk about. We would first talk about our interviewed subject's topic (such as heritage) and then go onto the second point of comparison/contrast, and then the third. Then we would put everything about us concerning those three topics next... I think... Honestly, I am still very confused about it and I hope our next essay is not that confusing... I am going to talk to her sometime today or tomorrow. I know there is no persuading her, but I can at least discuss with her what I got wrong and maybe ask for some examples of what was right.

You type with only one finger? Don't worry about any errors, I'm sure I can figure out what you mean.

The Foundation is what keeps Medora running. It is advertising and organizing events for tourism and such. I will ask my stepdad for a better definition of what the Foundation is, in order to tell you more. I'm not really sure myself, as I've never liked the Foundation for various reasons, and so am not attached to them much, except that I worked for them this summer. A camera is definitely a must on the 36-mile park loop. You will most likely see bison and deer, and you may also see horses (depending on the time of day), and if you're lucky, bighorn sheep. I've never been fortunate to see bighorn sheep and I've been driving the park since I was very little. I have seen all sorts of other animals and fowl, though. At Reptile Gardens, there was such a massive crocodile (at least 6 feet long and at least 3 or 4 feet wide!) that I could not get him in my picture frame to take a picture of, no matter where I tried or what angle I tried! It was spectacular and pretty scary, he could barely move because he was so large!

At this point, since my back is still hurting me (it has been today, until I iced it after aural skills class and my piano lesson, until the ice all melted; it's been nearly a month since I believe I originally injured it, you would think I'd see some improvement by now), my dad says I should wait until tonight when he can talk to Karen, and we will see about going back to the chiropractor. I don't think this is a matter the chiropractor can solve, though, as it's a muscle strain and not joints or bones, I don't think. That's what my chiropractor said, anyway, once he put my hip back in place. The general practitioner on campus also told me that it didn't seem to be a kidney thing, it seemed to be a muscle disorder, and that I should avoid carrying anything for 4-6 weeks and ice and heat it, but the not-carrying is impossible with my classes, unless I had someone with the exact same schedule as me, in all my classes? Which I don't.

I have only shopped online once or twice, and it was for minor things, such as CDs and such. I know sites like Ebay and Amazon are pretty foolproof and safe, but I am still hesitant with the whole fact that I cannot see who I'm buying from, or whether it's a scam to take my money, or whether the product will arrive as its being advertised. I think my dad could show me just how good Ebay is (he uses it all the time for collections and such), but for now, I'm hesitant and try to avoid it and buy my things in the real world.

I enjoy a couple songs (Mamma Mia! and Dancing Queen) from Mamma Mia! but am not familiar with the show itself. Could you tell me more about it?

Oh, my gosh, I knew gas in Europe was the highest in the world, but I didn't think it was that bad! I had thought you were still paying $5-$6 per gallon, but certainly not $9-$10! That's absolutely terrible. Why is it so incredibly high there? Aren't you closer to the Middle East than the United States? Or does that not make a difference?

It was very tiring to split wood for five hours. All it is, is pulling a lever, though, on a machine, and the wood gets split for you; you just have to catch the wood pieces and put them on the pile. If you Google it, if you don't know what the splitter looks like, I'm sure you can find it and you'll see what I mean. It was the stacking part that was exhausting, pulling the actual lever on the machine to split the wood was not.

My exam turned out badly. I nearly got a C, missed it by one point (so ended up with the highest D grade you can get.) I mean, I knew it had been harder than I'd anticipated, that I hadn't done as well as I could have, but I didn't think I'd done that badly (I didn't fail, though.) But I still have a B in the class, so it's OK. I'm just pretty bummed out that I did so badly on the exam. As for my essay, she said my organization was bad and that I did do it in the wrong format, and that I used too many points of comparison and contrast, so she docked my grade down to a middle B. Such is life, though, right? I don't really care anymore, as long as I pass the class by the final in December...

I'm off to Freshman Seminar. I was hoping to get some writing done on my fan fiction stories today (I have three WIPs at the moment), but that doesn't appear to be happening. I'm simply too busy again today, which is unusual for Tuesdays.

Have a better day than I'm having, LOL.

    Hi Graham,

I would suspect wheelchair users use the elevator. In the building where two of my three morning classes are, there is an elevator. But those stairs are helping keep my cardio barely up to scratch, so if my back would only get better, I want to continue using them.

Tuesdays and Thursdays, my only classes are Aural Skills at 8 (only a small, thick book), piano lesson at 9 (my piano book bag, which does get quite heavy), freshman seminar at 1 (no books), choir at 2 (only my choir folder), then marching band at 3 (no books.) Marching band is going to end soon, too, so eventually, after November 1, my Tuesdays and Thursdays will end at 2 p.m., woo hoo!!!

My professor did tell me "everything about the subject first, and then everything about you", but she didn't state whether that's in the same paragraph or what. It would have helped me a lot to see an example, even though I am an auditory learner, not a visual learner.

Most tourists come to Medora, but we residents and employees of the Foundation do suggest they see the Musical at night and go for a drive in the 36-mile national park loop. I have not been able to do that in forever, I want to soon. I love taking pictures of the wildlife nearby to the road, especially the horses. I took an amazing picture of two dapple grey, brother horses once with my grandma's camera, when I was with her. I do wish she could upload her pictures to the computer and send them to me in an email, or else mail me a hard copy, as I really want that picture back... But she, like most elderly and adults, doesn't like computers and doesn't want to take ten minutes to do so. I am going to ask her for it soon. I suggested my roommate also go to Reptile Gardens, which is nearby to Mount Rushmore, and I know it's open through October, but she said she didn't, which is too bad. She bought me a bracelet from somewhere, but as I have rather large hands and wrists, it doesn't fit. I felt bad, but there was nothing I could do about that. I kept it anyway, but I feel weird having it, when I do not wear it. Any suggestions?

I do know I have astigmatism, although it never bothers me, except when I notice it in the mirror. I will ask my dad if he wants to set me up with an appointment. I don't know if he wants me to set them up myself, now that I'm in college, which would make sense, or if he would get those things done with me when my sister goes? I'll ask him and will see.

I hate late Christmas shopping, too, Graham, because then lots of good things are gone, selections left are limited, and one may not always know what to get someone. My parents told me to not Christmas shop this year for them, as I don't have much money and might be spending their money anyway. I feel sort of fortunate, but sort of out of the holiday mood.

Bismarck has two malls, actually, although one is not much bigger than ours. I know I prefer to go to their bigger one. It is good walking and has many more stores than we do here. But of course, you have to spend money on gas to drive there. Speaking of which, gas here is $2.89, which is amazing; how is it for you overseas? I am loyal to my own mall sometimes, but I am rather tomboyish and hate shopping usually.

Have a good day. I'm off to go hang out in the library before my English Composition class. I'll let you know how my essay and exam turned out. I'll be finding out those results in an hour or so. I had a very long, tiring day yesterday, as my dad and I split wood at the bible camp in Medora for five hours straight. We worked so hard, we did not even have lunch, and had no energy left upon returning home. I don't know why I didn't sleep better than I did, which was strange. I wasn't that tired, much less than until about an hour after finishing working, so I don't know. I hope to sleep better tonight.

    Hi Graham,

I tried a trolley (I love that term, it reminds me of Harry Potter) sort of thing in junior high, but we call them "wheelie backpacks" here (makes sense, doesn't it?) It was good for my back and such, but people were stupid and kept kicking it or purposely tripping over it and making my life difficult (I hate immature people.) I haven't tried it since, although it sounds like a good idea now; I doubt college students would do such immature things. But it would be hard going up the stairs and such? My books aren't too heavy, I just have to carry a lot of them around at once, as I have music theory/aural skills first, then Algebra right after. My fitness class after Algebra does have a book, but since my teacher doesn't use it yet, none of us read it (he suggests we do outside of class) and I don't even bother bringing it to class yet. I have a small, thick book for English Composition, and then two folders for choir and chamber singers. That's Mondays and Wednesdays for me, Tuesdays and Thursdays I have no books to carry. Friday, I do until about 11 a.m., but not after.

Subject-by-subject format for essays means you write everything about yourself first in one paragraph, and then write everything about your subject in a second paragraph. With point-by-point, in one paragraph you write a bit about you, and then put down the other subject's comparison in the same paragraph, before going onto another paragraph. That's about as best as I can explain it. I think, if I'd seen examples, real essay examples, I would not have been confused. I'll find out Monday how I did. I don't know how that one person got 100%; they are lucky. On our last essay, she said there was not one person whose paper had not been written upon, even minorly (my last essay got 95%, which was close.)

The North Dakota Badlands are beautiful, especially the Painted Canyon scenic view you get when you are taking the interstate to Medora, going east to west. Next time I go out there, which may be Thanksgiving, I will try to take a picture for you of it, although I'm sure you can find many on Google Images. When there's snow, it's even more beautiful. I'm sure I can email you some more pictures that are on my stepdad's laptop, too, if you want. I don't know a lot about the South Dakota Badlands, because I am so loyal to my own, in a sense, but I have seen them once and they are not as... populous, I think is the word I'm looking for. They are still beautiful, of course, but not nearly as much as ours. It's a shame South Dakota is the state that gets the credit for the "real" Badlands, when we have Theodore Roosevelt National Park, both North and South Units, and they have nothing that I'm aware of; certainly, no national parks (except perhaps Mount Rushmore) and such.

It's actually not hard at all for me to play the marimba, now that I've learned with some practice, because of course I know by memory what a piano looks like, and I also have an exceptionally trained ear from my years of lessons, so it's actually quite easy for me to play. While I'm practicing, because I'm not used to reading the little 5x5 cards the band uses for field playing and such, I blow my music up quite a lot, so I can read it (I think I probably need glasses, but I'm holding off as long as I can), so that I'm familiar with what the notes are and at least where they are, when we go to march and play, when I have to use the small music, to not look out of place, or memorize. It's a weird... way of learning, compared to the rest of them, but it works for me. Yeah, our team must have lucky sucks. Black Hills State only managed to score one touchdown- and not their point after- so we won!

I have not started any Christmas shopping, as I don't really do that until the beginning od December, since life is usually busy until around then. Our mall is really busy around Thanksgiving here (it's small, compared to other malls I've been to), and then literally, completely dead around Christmastime. Things are open, but no one is around to go into the stores. I don't know how our mall survives, really, because Bismarck's, 100 miles away, is so much bigger and most people choose to go there.

I hope your desk move occurs fortunately while you are there. If not, I'm sure you will find a way to make things work out!

    Have a great day,

    Hi Graham,

My back has been good today. There are certain desks at school that bother it a lot when I sit in it, but it has been OK these past couple of days. It doesn't help it heal that I have to carry heavy books around with me to my first three Monday and Wednesday classes. There isn't anything I can do about that, though, as there isn't someone to carry them for me or anything (that would be nice.)

I haven't found out yet how I did on my English mid-term or essay. I will find out Monday. I was hoping to find out Friday, but she wasn't finished grading them yet. As I did my essay in the wrong format (point-by-point, when it was supposed to be subject-by-subject, but I got confused), I don't know how much she will dock me for that, because I bet she will, but all my content is there, so... we'll see. As for my mid-term, it was harder than I anticipated. I hope I did OK. She said one person (highly unlikely it's me) got 100% and she was very surprised.

South Dakota has Mount Rushmore. But no matter what anyone says, North Dakota has the better (and original) Badlands!

Yes, the marimba is basically a keyboard you strike with mallets, and the keys are all brown, instead of black and white keys you play with your fingers, whose strings get stuck by a hammer (so one could argue that the piano is both a string and/or percussion instrument; this argument has been brought up with me many, many times, nobody wins because both sides are entirely true.) We won our game today, 16-6! Black Hills State (South Dakota) managed to sneak in one touchdown, but we still won! I heard a rumor that our team wore the same socks they wore when they played and won against Jamestown for luck, LOL, but I don't know if that's true.

I'm tired today, too. I didn't stay up too late last night, but I didn't get to sleep in this morning, as my niece and nephew are here and breakfast here is served around 8 a.m. weekend mornings, and I had to be in the band room by 9:30. It was a busy day! I'm glad to be able to relax tonight and sleep in tomorrow.

Have a great day and rest of the weekend,

    Hi Graham,

My back has been good today. I iced and heated it last night. Alternating the two seems to be helping it gradually. It only stiffens up if I sit for an hour or more. I have not had to, really, today.

That's interesting that the Olympics were out of your time zone. China is like, 12 hours ahead of me here and I got to see everything. You are about 8 hours ahead of me, no? So I would have thought it would have been a truly globalized live event. I'm sorry you didn't get to see much of it.

I am finding little time to be able to enjoy myself, with as much as I am concentrating on doing well in school. I am a little nervous about how my English mid-term turned out (I'll find out in about two hours.) It was harder than I anticipated. I'm not going to take up kickboxing until my back is completely better, I'm going to give it at least three weeks. Exercising like that sounds like a good stress relief for me. And depending on when the class is offered, I may not be able to take it.

Free shipping is always nice. I shipped a package to Washington once, and although I told the UPS man third-class was fine, he heard priority and charged me for that! I have also had to have a package delivered from Canada two summers ago; each of those two shippings cost me about $6.00

Wow, you have been so many places! I have not been able to travel outside of the US yet, but I know I have many, many years left to be able to do so. I want to particularly visit London, Italy, Greece, New Zealand, South Africa, and a few other places (as you can read on my profile.) Yes, I am from North Dakota (and no matter what anyone says, we have no accent!)

The marimba is basically a xylophone, but in the shape of a piano, it has brown keys that would be "black" or "white" on the piano, but everything on the marimba is brown. The one I use is actually called a marimbaphone; the actual marimba is a little different.

I don't actually watch much of the game if we are losing. But I like watching how my friends react, as they know more about football than I certainly do. We only play when the team plays at home. We are planning a spring tour, but only around North Dakota (how boring!)

Have a great weekend. I'm looking forward to relaxing at home when I'm not at the game.
