“Palahniuk got extremely lucky with this, his first book. I'm astounded that such a poorly written book could become such a huge hit. The story is interesting and captures something quite special about his writing but then there's the ending. OH GOD! THE ENDING! I'll just say that, while the story is just as imaginative and offbeat as what the film portrays, Palahniuk's fledgling writing left alot to be desired. Luckily, for Chuck and everyone else, his writing improved and he stopped saying "shrink wrapped in tears" over and over again.”
