Books I've Given Up On Trying to FinishThe Bonfire of the Vanities by Tom Wolfe - This was my 2nd attempt. I just couldn't get past the chapter detailing Sherman McCoy's life as a bond trader. Really, do I look like I give a damn about bond trading? It made my eyes water and glass over. I get it: once the stepchild of the investment world, bonds became very lucrative and McCoy became mad rich. Ok, why do we need an entire chapter on that? Wolf is very detailed, but I still didn't know what the point of the book was or find myself interested in the story or its characers by page 100. If you can't grab me within the first 100 pages, it's really a wrap and time to move on. I ended up reading The Judges by Elie Wiesel and Life Is Short But Wide by J. California Cooper afterwards.
