The YouTube thing is way too addictive--I think it is especially so for folks who like to follow tangents or be able to follow up on an interest/topic they like. Needless to say, I try to prevent myself from spending too much time on there but I look up everything from knitting to politics to skateboarding tricks (don't even ask why I think I should be doing skateboarding tricks at the age of 33--perhaps it is my version of the pre-midlife crisis; I'm rather frugal and skateboards are much cheaper than sportscars... ).

I think there are people who just feel that way about all black women (i.e., that they are angry and bitter), but I don't possibly see how you could take anything like that away from Michelle's speech unless you came prepared to already do so.

No new stalkers sounds like a homerun of a summer! My granny is in the nursing home, but probably would be in the psyc ward if she wasn't too old (90 this past June) to be harmless to anyone but herself. Did you take granny to the cemetary?!!! Window shopping? Just kidding. I'm actually quite fond of cemetaries.

We went to Connecticut to visit my wife's family. We came home a day early if that tells you anything ; )

The fam is doing mostly well. Dominic just turned 6 last month and seems to be growing out of the brief phase that had me wanting to snap important parts of his precious little skeleton. To be fair, he's really a rather good child, but when he presses buttons, he goes for the big ones.

I hear you on the book ADD--I go from focussed on one or two books to wanting to try and read 8 at the same time (which never works for me).

    Readin' anything good right now?

    Hey Jboogie,
    How are you doing?
I wondered if you bought any new earrings or lip gloss lately? I recently bought two pairs of earrings from Icing, but I do not have anything to go with them at this time. What are you reading? I want to read Trumpet since you raved about it on NP. I am reading" Blood Colony" by Tanaranive Due. I'm going to drop by DW to see what you guys are discussing today! I'm off to skim your shelf and check out DW!

    Peace!

Woah! You have been in posting in overdrive on your blog. I need to catch up!

If not a mom, then what about a mentor? Somebody needs your example. You may not have the time to share right now, but maybe you can keep the idea in the back of that brilliant mind of yours (along with the other seven trillion "things to maybe do at some point later if I have time list")?

Got a chance to check out your blog, and much like your posts, I found it humorous, but mostly inspiring. I watched Michelle Obama's speech, which I'd not seen and man does she rock!

Hope the summer has been good to you. Since I always considered you a friend, I didn't realize it was never blessed by Shelfari, so I'm sending you an official invite.

    How's life treatin' ya?

Love you. I was going to respond to Andi but Shelfari was trippin. Must be the gods. I couldn't have come close to response. On point, all the way round. And yes, while I love you, you and everybody else need to leave my uterus alone. Sista don't play. LOL

Hello friend, you know in some ways woman did this to those of us who think raising children properly is a full time job, they made everyone think you can do it and hold down a full time job. You can but something has to give and often its the kids, becuse Mom is at work they are left alone and we have all been kids , kids when left alone make poor choices. I can still hear my yougest son telling me not long ago how he used to love to come home and find me home, and this was when he was sixteen, so you can only imagine what its like for little kids. Go enjoy your life when you can afford it have kids, they take a lot of money.

wow! two weeks! that is some serious away time!!!! Funny my 3 yr old laptop is cracking, I mean the body is, and the harddrive seems stuck in first gear, looks like i am in for a new purchase, repairs over $300.00 a new one for less than $500...

Sure you can write, question is, can you do something more productive lawyering? I mean writing is rewarding but it aint likely to make you much money unless you get really lucky.... Oh well as to those great ladies of the pen, I guess Sula is how it hits you, you know? I would imagine you read song of solomon? now that is beautiful. No Gloria Naylor? oh you have a pleasant surprise waiting on you!!!!! Kinda hate for you to start with MamaDay, that is surely her best... wouldn't want the rest of them to be a letdown:)

Me? I am reading three books by white peole and planning a fourth:) Nemesis by agatha christie, still havent finished bill brysons thunderbolt kid, am reading the non fiction Wrecking Crew, I reccommend that one to you, forget the authors name, but he is the guy who wrote, what is the matter with kansas. and will be reading a daphne du maurier i havent read yet.

yeah, funny thing about paradise, i think it may be her greatest literary work, bluest eye may be her greatest cultural work or whatever you call it, looking at the horrors and dysfunction of our society, but paradise is pure hih class sit down william faulkner and graham greene, here is a lady who can write kinda book, but the critics kinda trash it as not one of her best!!!! i wonder what copy they read?
glad you are back keep writing, and by the way, i still havent got my butt in gear and rewrote that mays hill that you hate so much, but i will. i really wanna figure out how to tell that story without offending black folks, maybe while i am fixing the literary side of it, i can figure that out, too. take care. everytime i drive through riv bch, which is often, i think of you.

Sula? is this your first time through? i loved that book, and it is time for me to reread it. I got so disgusted with the stuff Toni has been peddlin lately, gonna go reread me some good stuff. let me know what you think. i think this book and linden hills by my real favorite writer are related, but then i think they get close in other books, too, ever read linden hills? or mam day or baileys cafe? i should look on your shelf. anyway, for my money, they are all better than the best morrison stuff, though sula and paradise and song of solomon are really good!
by the way, i been snooping up and down soem conversations with you and some of our friends, i like your writing a bunch, why dont you write us some sassy black woman in the city legal thrillers and make all kinds a money, then i will have one more famous friend who can pretend they dont know me anymore:)

I just read the synopsis, and it reminds me of a biography I read awhile back about Billy Tipton. The book is called 'Suits Me' and chronicles Tipton's life as a jazz musician. Born a woman, the cross dressing first opened doors to work in clubs, but then became a way of life. She went on to marry (not legally) and adopt sons. Does Kay mention Tipton in acknowledgments, preface, or foreword? She has to have done some research on her life. All of this reminds me of another book that I have yet to read--about an heiress who dressed as a man and had a male lover... that lover was a doll that she took everywhere. That's a synopsis that makes you think!!
