I am a high school English teacher and a compulsive reader. I read a wide variety of things, including good literature, mystery, history, biography, humor, nonfiction, romance, fantasy, ads posted on bulletin boards, the backs of cereal boxes, etc. It drives me nuts when things are poorly written! My students will attest to the fact that I'm...more »

Hello jbentz. I am sorry I haven't been able to log-in for so long. Iv'e really been busy lately. *sigh* Anyway, :) How are your pets? I had to take my labrador to the vet, but now he is all better. And as for my cat, well, he's grown a lot since he was born, and now he's really fat and fluffy. Did anything interesting happen over the past year? Nothing much over here, but glad nonetheless!

Mrs. Bentz, I saw the best version of Taming of the Shrew yesterday. My parents got me a DVD set called Shakespeare Retold, and it has modern retellings of that, Much Ado about Nothing, Macbeth, and A Midsummer Night's Dream. The Taming of the Shrew had a woman who was trying to become Prime Minister, and her adviser tells her to get married to improve her public image. She meets a guy who has a title, but needs money, and they get married. He shows up drunk to the wedding, purposefully makes sure they get stranded in the middle of nowhere, invites his friend to the villa they're vacationing at, stuff like that. Her sister is a famous model who tells her manager he'll marry her when Kate gets married. Then at the end there's an arguement about prenuptial agreements instead of a contest. It was so funny, and the acting was really good. It reminded me of senior English when we studied it and watched the movie.

Ha! Well that is great. I doubt I could ever write but I love to read. I am always getting others to read as well. My Grandma was a compulsive reader. She read non-stop and instilled that in me. I am working on my kids with that as well. I work with juvenile delinquents and I am always bringing in books for them to read. I can usually get the girls to read Jodi Picoult and the boys Harry Potter. Usually when I get them they have never read for fun in their life. I am always up for suggestions for them to read!

She is pretty young to be so published. I am sure having an English teacher for a mother has helped! :) I wish I could read more but as a Mom I feel guilty when my kids want my attention. That is why I love my job! Getting paid to read is pretty amazing!

Hello! Thanks for accepting the friendship request! Yes, I am the diver in the pic. You can't see it very well, but I'm petting an eel. It was during a dive off of Catalina Island in California a few years back. Just a happy moment in time that feels like me most of the time. LOL I know what you mean about finding the books you've forgotten--this Shelfari has been a lot of fun for me--because in several cases I have rediscovered old friends (books) that I had forgotten about. Have a great day!!

Hi! We have a lot of similar books! :) I MAKE time to read, otherwise I get so stressed out. I work the night shift at work and we are allowed to read from 11-7am. So I get 24 hours a week to read and do school work! Love it! I am interested in your daughter's books. They are on my wish list. Nice to meet you! :) Erin

    Hi:

I thought you might be interested in a contest. It’s wacky, creative and ‘killer’ fun. ‘Create a Corpse’ Contest lets you name a character in my suspense novel Divine Justice. Of course, you guessed it—the character dies

For contest details, just scroll over the following URL, copy and paste into your browser. This is a great contest for avid readers who’d like to be part of the process. I look forward to receiving your entries. :)

I recently purchased the 2 Wally Lamb books you have on your shelf at a used book sale. Any thoughts on which one to read first?

I did okay on the assignment; my prof said I had good ideas, but I needed to expand on them. My classes are good. I'm taking Screenwriting, Visual Perception, and Careers in Arts and Cultures, too. There's so much writing to do!

Wow! I love animals too! I have 1 Labrador retriever (originally I was supposed to get a golden retriever, but there were complications...), & 1 kitten (one of the kitties of my first cat). I also love summer. I used summergal as a username in my friends website. And I also love art & literature. I remember trying to write a few chapters for a short novel, but had to stop. So now I am an artist, I have been painting since I was small, & I am still painting up to now! This afternoon I think I will finish my Koi painting & use it as my profile picture here... Anyway, & suppose by now you would have guessed that love music, teddy bears, creativity, & chocolate,... but then again, WHO WOULDN'T?!
I can't believe that when I fist saw your site, we had a lot of similar "likes"... It's almost unbeleivable!

Hi Mrs. Bentz! My second ever comp and rhetoric assignment here at DePaul was on "I Stand Here Ironing," that short story you had us read last year. Thought that was kind of funny.

Hi! We share some of the same book interests! I have just joined Shelfari! I am always looking for a new friend who loves books! My name is Larry Montello, and I live in Marshall, Minnesota. I just moved back here about ten months ago from Arizona! I was born in Montclair, New Jersey. My ethnic heritage is Italian, Scot, Irish, German, Canadian, and God knows what else. I have eight children, all from my marriage to Dawn, that ended over six years ago. Only three of my children live in Minnesota at the present time, (a couple of hours away from here),, but I talk to all of them frequently on the phone and they often visit. In my life I have lived in 14 different US states and traveled in 48. I have also traveled quite a lot in Canada, and some in Mexico. No where else YET! In the past I have been, among other things, a school teacher, small business owner, manager, waiter, hospital technician, salesman, and delivery driver. Now I have an overnight job at Walmart, but who knows how long that will last! I have always been a inquisitive and curious person, which explains my university degrees. They are in geography, history, political science and English Literature. I primarily went to universities to LEARN things not just to pursue career or financial goals. Oh well! Probably does not make much sense to a lot of people. I have a wide variety of interests and hobbies. Among my interests are: history, geography, cultures, music, literature, art, science, railroads, nature and wildlife. Among my hobbies are: reading, listening to music, watching movies, taking care of my pets, collecting stamps, postcards, books, sports memorabilia, and maps. I love animals and have quite a number, including: a dog, (Jack), two cats,(Lilly and Siggy), three cockateils, a tortoises, and eight water turtles. Hopefully your new friend, Larry

Thank you so very much for all the great things you said about my book, MOTHERING MOTHER. Please, please post it on Amazon and B&N--this is the kind of review an author dreams of! I so appreciate your words.
FYI--I have a prequel--can you imagine being adopted by MY mother??? I was...and lived to write the story:)
Please post it on Shelfar's review board too. I'd like to send you a small gift for doing all this--I know it takes time and energy. Email me at writecarol@comcast.net and give me your address. ~Carol

Thank-you for accepting my invite. Yes it has not been easy but I have always wanted to go back to school and complete a degree, and when my youngest went full-time in school I made the move :)

I see you teach English...my sister-in-law teaches H.S. English, and I always wanted to do that as a kid. I had the best English teacher in the world back then :)

I hope you enjoy the rest of your summer with a good book. I have read quite a few myself this summer because I have been laid up at home after having surgery. I have read the latest HP, James Patterson's "The Quickie", Mitch Albom's "One More Day", "A Thousand Splendid Suns", and now "House On Mango Street" within the past month :)
