I wish you a very happy Christmas and a fantastic 2009 with lots of love, happiness, friendships and new books to read!Lots of love,Monique
Hi I am still in Noosa and have done very little reading Fran has had a hip replacement and I have been spending quite a lot of time helping her. Have brought Feel The Fear and Do It Anyway. Susan Jeffers. Have had so much going on Patrick had to have 40-50 lymph nodes removed . I thought the book was a good idea at the time and I was here and Pat was in Sydney it was very difficult but we got through without the book. I did however flip through it and I will read it eventually.
Just finished Death at La Fenice by Donna Leon. Great mystery set in Venice, as are all her mysteries. It is light reading, but fun. Will try to get hold of teh chinese mystery to look at. Am presently digging into The Mature Mind. Gives good insight and research into what happens as we mature. I can't seem to view my books "on my Shelf" on my computer. Do you see them?Jane
Hey, I'm doing well, mostly by luck, I fear, but gettign there! I like books with oriental/eastern flavour, tell me should I read the Mei wang books. I am using an old computer, could account for bumping of messages. try c.pembroke@iinet.net. au. Arkangel should still be lurking somewhere. Love Shelfari.Love u2. Caroline
Julia, I think I may have managed to find your speical section, but don't think that I am one of your 26 friends. I opened an account, though, and added some books which I'd recently read. Lots of queries. How do I add a book which the search engine for shelfari can't find?
I hope you will take the time to view my YouTube book trailer at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-t0K34iU6g. I am doing some research about potential characters to play the lead role in the upcoming movie. Hope you can help me out. As Ralph Eggleston Director/Production Designer of Pixar Animation Studios said,"I LOVED the book! It's a missing, ENDLESSLY fascinating link to the history of Hollywood. Thank you for researching and writing it!! I hope it's been widely well received, as it deserves to be." Best wishes. Gaelyn
The book is part of the biography of Ruth ParK the author of Playing Beatie Bow, Poor Mans Orange, Harp in the South etc. She is an Australian
Just finished reading The Secret River. Quite a book. Well written and vivid account of the time. How quickly lives can change.
Hi Julia,I tried to get this book from the library, but no luck for Nov. 21, and the nearest bookstore does not have it. I have ordered it from the Library and will read it, but probably not in time to discuss it. It looks really good,SBJ
Fishing In The Styx ia another Ruth Park book. I quite enjoy her autobiographical books as I find it gives an understanding of some of the AUSSIE ways. She wrote Playing Beatie Bow the childrens book made into a movie and used in school when my children were there. Another book I loved was Holy Cow an Indian adventure, I read it when Jacinta went on her world trip as I was trying to get her to bypass India if you like Bill Bryson you will love it was written by an Australian girl whose name has slipped my mind Sarah I think . She was a rather popular radio personality on JJJ here.
I'm delving into friends' bookshelves since I'm sleeping around these days. You know what I mean. So, from one friend whose house I stayed in recently I've borrowed a book on modern art because it's one of my passions and I just started to browse this book when I realised I really liked the commentary - it's written with attitude for a BBC 4 program. At the same time I grabbed a book of great relevance to my work at the moment. "Why Warriors Lie Down and Die" . Am maybe going to continue working in indigenous area so can use some of the ideas. Then, from another friend whose house I'm now staying at comes the pure pleasure read of the moment, "Infidel" autobiography of a Somalian feminist activist in the Netherlands about her conversion out of Islam. And in between books I read my subscription mags, the London Review of Books and The New Yorker. But my most constant bed/book lover is Edward Said whose book of essays lies nearby and I just dip into whenever I can. Am writing this in the middle of a thunder drumming tropical Darwin downpour. Perfect weather for a read and a lie down on a Sunday afternoon. Love
You are my friend! You are listed on my site. Whew. I felt lonely.Jane
Hi Julia: Am picking my way through the maze of this site! Our reading lists might vary somewhat but I can see a few on your lists that I have either read or want to read...and I see you love Bill Bryson!!! Will work on my list soon :) Jean
