  • The Cross And The Spirit: Peter and the Way of the Holy
    • Rated 3 stars

This book walks through the life of Peter and examines how he grows throughout his interaction with Jesus and Jesus' ministry. Carver explains how even though the spirit may be willing in the face of the Cross the flesh is weak and doesn't cut it in the end. We need to learn to trust beyond ourselves and live in the Spirit, because this is the only way we can successfully live the way of the Cross. It is written in more of a scholarly style than the more popular and accessible Christian literature that is written these days, but has some good things to say about our life as Christians and how we are to live those out as Christ did. As Christians we are to live the way of the Cross, the way of the holy.

Truly touching. Incredibly beautiful. Werther embodies everything of a hopeless romantic. I pity and love him all the more for it.

This is one of Palahniuk's best novels. He is so good at mixing nature images with those of modern science. Sometimes his nihilistic views come across as a little overbearing, but the ideas of living simply run deep through this book and that is something about which we could all learn a little.
