After enjoying the Plum novels I picked this up anticipating a light read to balance some heavy novels I've read recently. Unfortunately this book makes Mills and Boon look like Pulitzer contenders. Boring characters, rare laughs and hardly a conflict in sight to liven things up. Very disappointing and there is absolutely nothing here to recommend.

Despite Koontz's afterword praise for this novelisation of an obviously rubbish movie, I couldn't find too much to recommend it. Subplots regarding the mother left unresolved and a critically underwhelming finale head the list of faults. Fortunately its length is mercifully short.

Interesting premise that ultimately, likely due to the method of writing, feels disjointed. King has crafted some interesting characters as you'd expect, but in the end this unfinished novel is uninspiring

Epic story that creates an intriguing world full of likeable, loveable and loathsome characters. Follett can be brutal with them, not Bryce Courtney brutal perhaps, but still you fear for your favourites. Apparently there is a mini series, don't know if its worthwhile. Will now have to read the sequel!

Brilliant book forcing the reader to look through the eyes of the two main characters and try to decipher what was real and what is fabrication. The characters are well realised and their motivations and actions, while at times outlandish, feel genuine. Great suspense, will definitely make a great movie:)

Whilst borrowing heavily from other sources like "The Blob" and "The Thing" this is an exciting and well executed horror/thriller from Koontz. Apparently the movie is horrendous(when is it not?). Not too many surprises but does manage to raise some interesting philosophical questions. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Superbly written sci fi thriller. Great attention to detail, well paced and exciting. Despite some impressive dialogue the character development is thin; the protagonists are treated much like actors. Overall very enjoyable, the movie apparently is dreadful.

Interesting novel by the master, apparently penned very early in his career. Although a short novel I felt it would have worked better in an even more abbreviated form and faster pacing. Character backgrounds and relationships are central to this book and King draws some fine examples. Unfortunately I feel he failed to produce enough arcs within this group to really carry you through, some being merely shadows and others somewhat repetitive. These small grievances aside an excellent story that will satisfy.

Interesting collection of short stories that explore the human psyche through themes such as time travel, war and apocalypse. The movie Paycheck was birthed by the lead story. Dick is an accomplished storyteller but I will admit I am not a fan of his abrupt and expositional style.

I'm almost certain that this is the first Barker novel I've read, despite knowing of him by reputation, and was suitably impressed. Well written and creative, he has a gift of succinctly conveying meaning and imagery. Unfortunately the story is not particularly interesting and despite an accomplished first half falls flat as it drags itself to an uninspiring conclusion. Overly long and repetitive it is difficult to recommend despite the potential shown.
