I know I'm not on here much anymore, most of my reading these days relates to school. I'm trying to read a few books a month for pleasure, just to get my mind to switch gears.

I love me some books. They are delicious, yum yum.

You can generally tell what I am reading or have just read by what is at the top of my... more »

I don't know why the program says I might know you, because obviously I don't, but I thought I'd send a "hello" your way anyway.

Hi Januari, I hope you and your family are all happy and healthy and that school is going well. If you find the time, I'd like your reaction to Undress Me in hte Temple of Heaven. (I read about it in the April O magazine and am considering reading it.)

    Thank You Friend

I never came to you, my friend,
    and went away without
    some new enrichment of the heart;
More faith and less of doubt,
more courage in the days ahead.
And often in great need coming to you,
    I went away comforted indeed.
How can I find the shining word,
the glowing phrase that tells all that
your love has meant to me,
    all that your friendship spells?
There is no word, no phrase for
you on whom I so depend.
All I can say to you is this,
    God bless you precious friend.

“ISLAND BEAUTY is the best piece Marlene have ever written. She have really matured as a writer. I think it would even make a good movie. There is great suspense and conflict. Marlene shows life and how it really is, even when we think we have good friendships, life can throw us a curve ball. I really enjoyed reading her story it was great, the tone was good and it was exciting. Keep up the good work!”

Sage Churchill has always had the best of everything, a loving father that gave her everything her heart desired and good friends to kick it with, which always made life more exciting. She thought her life was perfect, until the day her father makes a deathbed confession that shatters her world as she knows it.
When Sage finds out that her mother, whom she was led to believe died, may be alive and living in Jamaica, her world is turned upside down. She is faced with the toughest decision of her life. Does she search for a woman she’s never known or does she ignore her longing for a mother’s love?
Sage, Nicky, Tish, and Lace have been friends since pre-school. But their relationship suffers when they bring the drama to Sage’s doorstep. Her girl, Nicky, has gotten herself involved in the drug game and has Sage’s name all caught up in the mix, bringing the authorities to her door. Tish, has a mystery lover and when that person’s identity is revealed, it may tear the girls’ thirteen year friendship apart and possible cause one of them to lose their life.
Will Sage find her mother and live happily ever after? Will she survive the drama? Or have a nervous breakdown?

Januari, your new avatar picture got my attention. I haven't seen many posts from you lately. Perhaps I'm not in the same groups. Anyway, it was nice to see your avatar and think about you.
You might like to join the group Women Speak 2009. At it, each of us has a thread where we post and comment on books we've read this year. We are keeping the membership at thirty max so that it won't get overwhelming to find one's thread. If you'd like to join, let me know. It's a private group so I'd have to invite you.

    Hi Januari,

I came across your profile because I was trying to find out if any of the Diversity Works members and also members of the Banned Books group. I saw your list of groups and found two new groups that interest me that I hadn't been aware existed (Latino literature and New York State of Mind).

A discussion is beginning in the banned books group about Edith Blyton's "The Three Golliwogs" that I thought members of Diversity Works might be interested in chiming in on. I strongly suspect you might feel the same way I do about it. Check it out if you have a chance.

Yes, I did read David Sedaris' new book. It was funny, but definitely not as good as "corduroy" or anything. We were ok with flooding, nothing has happened to us or any of our family, so we were very lucky. i will have to check out that last book club book, I do love memoirs!

    Hey Januari:
Hope all is well with the book club! I miss you all. Have you read any of the Twilight series yet? It's young adult, but when I picked up the first book, Twilight, I couldn't stop reading until I had gotten through all three. OMG...I was obsessed. If you are looking for a fast summer read, start with Twilight, by Stephenie Meyer.
