I am an elementary teacher who just loves to spend whatever extra time I have reading. One of my goals with my students is to instill this love of books into my third graders.

Hope you're enjoying your summer! I am just starting to read "Keeping Faith" by one of our favorite authors! I noticed the last time I wrote to you was last summer. We don't have time to do anything fun during the school year I guess.

    Hey Jan,

    How goes it?

Just started school this week and the body is exhausted but the mind is racing – overall it feels terrific to be back in the classroom.

This summer my latest book was released – “Roam Italy: A Teacher and His Students Take the Ultimate Class Trip.” The book’s website is www.theclassroombook.com if you wanted to check things out.

Possible tornado warnings in NJ this weekend so I best head for cover…

    Hi, Jan.
I'm reading Three Cups of Tea and am absolutely loving it! I can't beleive all that Greg went through to build schools. It makes my life sound so easy!

I am able to get into your bookshelf! Thanks for adding me to your friend's list. You are my first and only friend right now! I just started reading "Harvesting the Heart" and I was hooked by the first paragraph!

Yes, The Christmas Sweater was great! Especially since I knit and know how much work and love can be put into knitting. It was a unique story and I couldn't put it down.

We had just returned from a trip to the Oregon rainforests when Kate handed me the first Twilight book. Kind of like reading Jaws at the beach. Anyway, I really enjoyed it and am anxious to read the second book.

I COMPLETELY agree that we need a Shelfari for kids! I'm a 2nd grade teacher in Wisconsin who can think of TONS of ways that my kids could organize bookshelves and see what their friends are reading!!! I sent a "suggestion" requesting the same thing...something a little simpler and more restricted. Hopefully something will get started. And how about a group for elementary reading teachers??? I've been looking for one, but don't see one--maybe we should start one! Happy Reading!

Sounds like you are addicted to Stephanie Plum. I can bring #13 over to your house if you are in a hurry for it!

Hey Jan, just finished "Lean Mean Thirteen". If you'd like to borrow it , let me know. I loved it, but all the Stephanie Plum books make me laugh! Sue

    Greetings,

Cute photo. (Don't worry, I won't inquire as to what year it was taken.)

So, which grade(s) and/or subjects do you teach?

I used to teach 7/8th Social Studies, but now it is only 8th. I think I like that better.

Read anything good lately? I just started "The Devil in the White City," which someone on shelfari recommended, and I am absolutely loving it.

    Ciao, Michael

Thank you so much for turning me onto this site. It's something I've been looking for to help turn my text list of books read into living color and discuss. Thanks!
