“This complete paperback is a whopper at 744 pages...but there's more to it than just text! It holds three separate parts, and over 70 illustrations are placed strategically throughout the book to help readers get a visual of the characters, plants, and animals. The map is very helpful, and there are nine map breakouts of the different territories of Maycly - another helpful and very interesting feature. The back of the book holds family trees, three teaser recipes, rules to a popular game played on Maycly, and more.
The story lends itself to the timeless tale of good vs. evil. Maycly is a world everyone longs to experience, but for Iona it has become a fading dream. Why? Because she has been left alone to fend for herself. Her family goes mysteriously missing, whirling her into a state of poverty, loneliness, and depression. In her hay-day you could not have convinced her that the Grand Wizard SUL, the Creator of Maycly, didn't exist. But now that she's facing the toughest of circumstances, she's given up on SUL altogether. A puppy shows up on her doorstep and things begin to change.
It's not long and you are taken back in time on Maycly where you'll discover the history of how Evil has overthrown Good, meet unique characters, and find the stage being set for their queens' hopeful arrival.
There are two epic battles, both written in such detail you'll feel as though you are actually there as a spectator. The vivid detail is not just found in the battles, but all throughout the novel.
I'd say this book, though it's big, is a fast read due the writing style. It's suitable for the whole family as there is no profanity or vulgarity to be found. You'll laugh, you'll cry, and you'll find characters (Earthly or Mayclysian) with whom you can relate.
