Hello Mr. Piper, I am sorry you are unhappy about the way Shelfari displays book titles. As a Shelfari librarian, I am a volunteer that simply follows the guidelines given to me by Shelfari. When making decisions I usually go by the cover of the book. Since the use of parentheses in the title is against the guidelines and the cover of your book does not use the parentheses the change was denied. This was not arbitrary, it was based on the cover of the book that I assume you approved. If you want "A Thriller" to be part of the title on Shelfari, the place for it would be in the subtitle section. I would have approved it as the subtitle (without the parentheses) because that is what it appears to be on the cover of the book. When we are working through the thousands of requests we get daily, we do not know if the editor making the request is an author, publisher, or someone that just has the book on their bookshelf. We assume what appears on the cover of the book is what the author wants. If you resubmit the title with the subtitle in the proper field, I will approve it. If you are unhappy with the guidelines you can contact someone who works for Shelfari at feedback@shelfari.org. As a volunteer, I am not able to make exceptions to the guidelines without Shelfari's approval. You can see the current editing guidelines at http://www.shelfari.com/groups/59851/about and the section specifically addressing titles at http://www.shelfari.com/groups/59851/discussions/252919/5--Title-Subtitle-Change-Edit-Requests .

I just noticed, I have your book! (I have more than one Shelfari account) You've caught my interest, I look forward to reading it next! Maybe putting the words 'A Thriller' would be best suited to the subtitle line?

I apologize, my intent was not to offend anyone. Normally, when part of the title line is bracketed, it depicts what type of book it is or the series it belongs to and not part of the actual title. It is something that is easily rectified, although I see that perhaps this has been done, as there is another pending edit there, already. Thank you for sharing your thoughts/feelings with me! I'm always glad to get feedback from an author, the one with the most invested in the book! Dianne

you are welcome. It was definitely a different kind of story with all of those quirky characters, but that is what made it very entertaining. I happen to like books that have a cooking theme as well. Shelfari is a great site, I have seen good reads and that looks great as well.
