  • Cat O' Nine Tales
    • Rated 5 stars

    Who doesn't love kitties?

You'll laugh and cry, but mostly fall in love with nine yummy heroes in nine entertaining tales. Award-winning author Deborah Macgillivray has another winner with this book, and several stories in Cat have won awards or finaled.

I love Simon, the cat who . . . I don't think I'm gonna say. But I'd recommend him to anyone. :) His story is A Very Special Man. Then there's Elvis the Cat who connives to get his human, Rhys St. John, matched up good and proper in Blue Christmas Cat.

This is a high-quality trade paperback book with a beautiful cover, a perfect gift for any cat lover or romance reader.

  • Knight's Fork
    • Rated 5 stars

Those of us who loved Forced Mate and Insufficient Mating Material could hardly wait for the release of Rowena Cherry's latest sensual futuristic romance replete with hilarious chess puns and hunky Great Djinn.

Queen Electra-Djerroldina must bear a green-eyed heir, and soon, so she picks super sperminator (Cherry calls him a superimpregnator) Djarrhett, Saurian Knight and enemy of her husband, Viz-Igerd of Volmoth. Always ready to find a way to stir up trouble to his own benefit, her brother, Emporer Tarrant-Arragon sends her and 'Rhett to earth. She works her wiles on him and hoo-baby, is he ever tempted, but 'Rhett not only won't donate his sperm, he's a virgin. Then there's the little problem of the chastity belt she wears--and no key.

As one of my favorite characters, an earthling named Grievous said, "The problem with your bloody Great Djinn gene pool is that there's no lifeguard on duty."

Knight's Fork is fun, sexy, fast-paced, and very clever. Rowena Cherry's talent shines once again, and I'm eagerly looking forward to the next book in the series. There's nothing like a Great Djinn god to spice up your day!

This is probably my favorite book of all time, and I've read lots of books. Mary Renault was an incredible author! If you like her books, check out Roberta Gellis' mythological fiction books. They're wonderful, too.

This is an awesome book. I love Mary Renault's mythological fiction and this book is every bit as good. Yes, I know--this is more of a recommendation than a review, but I read this book five years ago.

  • The Privateer
    • Rated 5 stars

Dawn MacTavish captured me with The Marsh Hawk, and I have to say her books are as close as you can come to a guaranteed great read. The Privateer had me from page one.

The one-eyed man who prefers to be called "King" is Basil Alistaire Kingston, Earl of Grayshire. He's haunted with a somewhat shady past, but his burden (other than his termagent mother, a wonderful character!) is his father's legacy of piracy and womanizing. King worries that he'll end up just like good ol' dad, and it's likely, too, considering the orders he receives from the Admiralty.

But he can handle all that. When his mother demands he find a companion for her in a debtor's prison, he meets Lady Lark Eddington. The introduction wasn't formal--she was fighting with three other women who'd robbed her of what little she had left. Her father had gambled away all the family's assets and her inheritance; hence, debtor's prison. She definitely didn't belong there.

What a journey! An alpha male with a very strong heroine and a determined mother, an unscrupulous bad guy, and a nasty woman out for vengeance. It's all here, a compelling story that will keep you reading. If you're late for work, just remember, you have been warned. :)

In Her Bed (The Dragons of Challon - Book 2)
    Deborah MacGillivray
    Zebra Historical Romance
    ISBN: 978-0821780377

    Well worth the wait!

Deborah MacGillivray introduced us to Damian St. Giles in A Restless Knight. Who was that delicious man who disappeared, leaving us sorely enticed? Now we find out where he's been. In Her Bed isn't a sequel to A Restless Knight since both books take place simultaneously. Hey, and we thought Tamlyn and Julian had issues. Ha! Just imagine the blow to Damian's ego when he finds out Lady Aithinne Oglivie has used him for stud service.

Aithinne is desperate to secure the future of her holdings, and to do that, she must produce an heir. She sends her twin brothers and her protector to procur a good specimen. Damian, drugged and spelled by Oona, can't believe his good luck when he's seduced by the woman whose image he's loved for years. He thought, at first, it was the Lady Tamlyn, but even though he's a bit miffed at his treatment, he finds Aithinne even more irresistable. Lady Aithinne, on the other hand, isn't the slightest bit interested in having any man claim her or her lands. And she's not at all amused when Damian tells her that King Edward has granted her lands to him.

Let Ms. MacGillivray take you on a journey through sensuality, betrayal, and true love. In Her Bed is the second book in MacGillivray's Dragons of Challon series, but can be read as a standalone just as well. (I don't know why anyone would want to miss the first book, though.)

For a true page-turner, I highly recommend Aithinne and Damian's rocky road to true love.

  • The Reincarnationist
    • Rated 5 stars

For true entertainment--thrills, chills, and a wild ride--The Reincarnationist fills the bill and then some.

Since his near-death caused by a suicide bomber, photo-journalist Josh Ryder's life has become impossible. Gone are his job, his wife, and all he knew. Without warning, Josh becomes Julius, a Roman priest a Roman priest in 391AD, fighting for not only his life but that of his lover's, as well as the sacred rites they've held holy for thousands of years. Just as quickly, he returns to present day as Josh.

His world is even more confused when an archeologist who's excavating a tomb of a Vestal Virgin, is murdered. Josh describes the killer to Rome's police, but is held as a suspect. The beautiful archeologist Gabriella Chase gets him released from prison, but then he's caught up in a web of love, both past and present, murder, extortion, and deceit.

The pages fly by as Josh and Gabriella are tossed from one mystery to another, sometimes fighting for their very lives. I thoroughly enjoyed The Reincarnationist from cover to cover and I highly recommend this book. Take a comfy seat and let M.J. Rose unravel this mysterious adventure for you!
