These about me sections have been getting hard for me to write lately. It's not that I don't know who I am. It is that people's perceptions of me have changed. I would consider myself a filmmaker. My last feature won at a film festival in India. It won best experimental, but I would consider it a romantic comedy. I wrote it about a girl that I knew and sometimes loved. I know that it may not have been the greatest relationship, but I don't think you could consider it experimental.
In 2008, I was able to get listed on IMDB. I also released my first book that year. It's a little book called "Life". I'm starting to become more well known for this book than for my movies and TV work. The funny thing is that I got my first professional review of my book in October. All of these people with degrees who work at universities are looking at me as the next great writer. They could only compare me to J.D. Salinger, but they said that they liked my work better. I'm supposed to be the hope of literature. I wouldn't find this so funny, except that I consider myself a filmmaker. I think some people are complaining that books are becoming more like shallow Hollywood blockbusters. And then I write a book based on my screenplay and am looked at as a savior of an art form.
This is why I am partly having a problem defining myself. Let me just say that I am Jack Gunthridge. I just am.
