I'm one of those people whose life goal is to never actually finish school. I recently received my Master's in English literature and am now pursuing a Ph.D. in the same field. My scholarly interests lie primarily in literature written in the Victorian Era and my approach looks at how new developments in computers and computation can provide insight into our experiences as readers and our understanding of books in ways that traditional reading cannot access.
My readerly interests are rather broader, as a cursory glance at my shelf reveals. I have a particular fondness for speculative fiction, a soft spot for YA, a guilty love for romance and a serious appreciation for the traditional western canon. I've also recently discovered the joys of physics as written for those with no interest in the equations. My general rule for fiction is that books should have at least two of the following if I'm going to read them - good plot, good characters, good writing (yes, I know, "good writing" isn't).
In my non-reading time, I enjoy crafting, especially with beads and embroidery, biking, cooking (although not washing up afterwards) and playing Plants vs. Zombies. I currently live in New York with my husband in an apartment that, to my everlasting dismay, just doesn't have the space for a dog.
