Ahh, Sookie. Many a female reader has spent the past five or more years involved in your misadventures. And now you've all grown up, or so your maker leads us to believe.

This final tale is a little too neatly wound to be satisfying, and focuses from quite early on the companions Sookie will, presumably, spending her "ever after" with. Many readers are entirely disappointed, but to me it reads like a young woman has enjoyed her single life and is now all ready to put certain things behind her and settle for something lasting.

When I borrowed the first four books in the Mortal iNstruments series, I was generally underwhelmed. Too much drama, too little originality was the main observation.

The Infernal Devices trilogy, on the other hand, was much, much better. Tighter prose style, a straightforward love story, and loads of poetry quotations and references to the classics made this a delightful read that was ended very satisfactorily.

I can see now why Miguel Syjuco is compared to Diaz. I much preferred this book to Oscar Wao.

    Wedding Night

Typical Kinsella, with plenty of laugh out loud moments, but a little too tidy and predictable.

Patrick Ness is probably the most underappreciated writer around these days. His prose is just beautiful, and this novel made me cry the way his previous ones did. There's an element of mysticism and myth about this one, reminiscent of Murakami and Gaiman, but the style and the imagery are entirely Ness's own, and put him, in my opinion, on the same level as Ian McEwan and his other equally known and respected compatriots.

I expected something clever and witty, just like Austen's work. Hot on the heels of my last read, Persuasion, this novel was a terrible disappointment. Chick lit at its poorest.

This is Jenny Colgan's best novel yet. The perfect balance between heart-warming and heart-rending. I held off buying this for months, thinking it was just another version of Joanne Harris's Chocolat. Thank goodness for the price drop at the Kindle store.

Part Little House on the Prairie, part Hans Christian Andersen. Ivey's Alaska is a far harsher place than Annie Proulx's Newfoundland, though this novel did remind me of the other. Achingly sad, a lovely, poignant story.

    Juan Ponce Enrile, A Memoir

    by Juan Ponce Enrile

A perfect example of HIS-story, and how a single point of view is simply not enough to create an accurate picture of what happened at a certain point in time.

Still, this memoir was interesting, well written, though not so well-edited, and created an excellent picture of its author in his milieu.

Even worse than the first, sadly.
