Blast from the Past: From a 2003 blog:
My dealer called me the other morning. She said she had a stash for me. The shipment I have been waiting for has arrived. It's pretty good stuff, not easily available in my part of town. She said she can keep it for me for 4 days; after that, it's back to the open market. I gave it some thought. Yeah right. As if there was any stopping me. That night I was there picking up the goods. Sure, there was a second of hesitancy; I have had too much of the cheap variety the past couple of months. Cheap, but because of the number of purchases, they add up to a small fortune. Having the 2 precious blocks in my hands broke down all resistance. I made the grab. Took the goods home, hurriedly took them out of the saran wrap, sniffed 'em, and I got my fix. Rapture.
Translation:
The bookstore called. The books I was looking for, the ones which are compilations of articles from The New Yorker magazine, just arrived. Two titles. Only two apiece. They?re reserved for me. Shucks, the call came at a bad time. After a book-buying rampage (40++books in just two months), I just told myself that I was not allowed to buy another
book till 2004. There was an internal struggle among my conscience, my wallet, and my booklust. You know which won.
My edgy life.
