    hi isabelle,
i'm so glad you like the full dark house. the next one is the water room. you have to read them in sequence because of the back story and when you get near the end of the series there is two books covering one crime - off the rails and on the loose. I still have the last one to listen to but i'm trying to get down my audible books. i'm on the ones I bought at the end of 2011! I have just been picking the ones that take my fancy, most of them what les has already listened to. our yanks is one of them. its alright but not keeping my attention. I keep finding other things to do.
I can post the full list of Bryant and may to you if you want.

I heard from another Kearsley fan that this one isn't up to her usual high standards, so I'm not expecting to be blown away when I eventually pick it back up. I don't dislike it, and I probably will end up giving it a decent rating, but I just was spoiled by her earlier novels.

I started it, got about 100 pages in and put it down. I haven't picked it back up yet and am in no rush to do so. It's not a bad book, but the two main characters (Robbie included) have the ability to speak to each other telepathically. I don't know why I can accept time travel in novels without issue but think telepathy is too far fetched and, well, creepy. Kearsley's older novels are definitely her best ones.

Are you reading it yet? It comes out soon, doesn't it?

LOL. Well, what are parents for? I'm sorry he's having a rough recovery. I hope this is the only operation he has to have. Sorry we missed each other too. I had a decent trip. ENded up with a major Crohn's flare and went straight to the hospital when I got back. Got better just in time to make my annual trek to D.C. last week. Hope I'm home for a bit. I'm sure I will be back in Atlanta. We'll catch up at a later date. Just wanted you to know I was thinking about you guys.

I just read your review of An Inquiry Into Love and Death. I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I've still not read St. James' first novel, even though I had intended to last year. I have got to cut down on the number of books I request to review via Netgalley. I've only read two of my own books this year and March and April won't likely see me reading from my own TBR pile either :-(

    I hope all is well!

Yeah, those are exactly the kinds of things I was hoping she would go into more detail about on her website. I'm still annoyed that her promise of more discussion of fact vs. fiction just meant she'd written an essay on the topic "fact vs. fiction"! There seemed to be so much more she could have talked about in her Author's Note.

Irvine WAS quite handsome! I thought Rideout really did a good job with that character--George and Ruth were well-drawn as well, but Irvine was really the character who tugged at my heartstrings the most in those final tragic passages.

On my Everest kick earlier this year I started with High Crimes by Michael Kodas and then read Into Thin Air and a children's "Worst Case Scenario" choose-your-own-adventure book (what can I say, it was fun!). I also watched a ton of science specials about the effects of altitude on the brain and that kind of thing...It was all really fascinating, and I do think I'm going to return to the topic pretty soon. Thanks for the link to the climbing season coverage, that should be really interesting to follow!

Oh, I'm so glad you're enjoying it! I gave my ARC to another librarian, so I can't double-check this, but I think in the Author's Note at the end she does say that she wanted to emphasize the "survivor's guilt" aspect of things by making Trafford die earlier. It did feel a bit heavy-handed to me, as I think there was plenty of survivor's guilt to go around after WWI even for those who hadn't lost siblings...

It sounds like Wade Davis's non-fiction book "Into The Silence" may take a similar approach connecting the Everest attempts to the trauma of WWI...I think I'm going to read it pretty soon, though I decided I needed a bit of a break from Everest after reading so much about it in such a short amount of time (and watching the Nova special about them discovering Mallory's body, which gave me nightmares).

I certainly did! Later she tries to help one of the women get a better Indian name by suggesting that she leap over the campfire, in the hopes that they'll then go for "Woman Who Leaps Over Fire". Unfortunately, the woman is not May, and therefore clumsily falls into the fire instead. Whoops!

    hi isabelle,
see you have got over your reading glitch and are back on track.
after lilstening to lands beyond the sea it took a bit of time for me to settle to my next book. lands beyond the sea was a hard book to follow because it was so good.
i'm going to start another chick lit type book because the one i was going to listen to "dancing at the rascal fair" is another historical fiction -this time about settlers in america. i think i will go through the lands trilogy and leave that one til later.
i'm on books i bought over a year ago and so can't remember what they are about and les wanders through my books like a grass hopper. i can't keep up with him. he is working his way through harry bosch books as i buy them. recenly he had a change by listening to peter diamond books by peter lovesey which are set in bath in the uk.
    your friend karen.
