Mike Farris

I live in Ellsinore, Mo. and am a proud father and husband. I love to read but I guess everybody on here does. I'd pretty much rather read than anything else in my leisure time. I love to make new friends on here and peruse their shelves. Generally readers are more interesting people than non-readers I think. If you would like to make a new... more »

Hey Mike, thanks for your comment. A long time ago, I read a few Grisham novels, then ended up moving on to other books (and getting busy, too!). I appreciate your comment on A Painted House, as it motivated me to put it on my "to read" list. God bless and happy reading!

    Not reading anything??? WHAT?

You must have other hobbies taking up your time. I can't sleep at night unless I read a few chapters first.

    Hey Mike...

I heard the book "The Prize Winner" was a good one. I plan on renting the movie after I read the book. I wish they still had contests like they did then... I would have liked to try my hand at a few.

Actually that plague book was interesting (I just finished) if a little scattered. But part of the fun for me was seeing what the author would jump to next. Hope you are well! NH

The book on European medieval history is very readable, easy to follow, and a great intro to the subject. It does not go into great detail about the Templars, a topic that also interests me. I read it partly for the same reason you will. Knowledge of history is important if you really want to understand all that stuff. There is a magazine published monthly called Knights Templar Magazine available here: http://www.knightstemplar.org/KnightTemplar/ Also, there are a lot of books and websites about Freemasons. Currently I'm reading Moral and Dogma, by Pike, a 33 degree Mason.

I loved The Kite Runner...don't know about the illustrated version. The book is well worth the read and I couldn't put it down. Any book which gives me more perspective about other cultures through a fiction venue is essential in my opinion, especially when it is a ripping good story to boot!

Thanks. Work got so crazy stressful that if it wasn't related it didn't get done. I'm hoping to be a bit more active, but we'll see. I am thoroughly enjoying being off. I didn't realize it would be this nice! Tell your wife she'll definitely make it. :)

    Hey Mike....

I really enjoyed the book a lot!! I am not a Korn fan, but I like inspirational stories.... This was VERY inspiring. His life was completely out of control and the way Brian changed his life is truly unbelievable. I gave it to my husband to read and then plan on lending it to a teen boy from our church.

He completely dedicated his life to God and to becoming the BEST Father he could possibly be. He gave up the money, drugs and the booze. Even if you are not a religious person, I think you would find this book very interesting. Korn was a WILD and CRAZY drug filled life and he feels that God saved him from suicide and complete self destruction. He is very devout now and has stayed clean and sober ever since. He is still writing music.... kinda like heavy metal gospel. Still, not my thing, but a great, quick easy read. I loved it! I read it within 2 days.

Let me know if you do read it, and what you think as well.
