I'm an avid reader and writer of fiction. I just graduated with my library degree and I also have a degree in English literature. In my spare time I enjoy taking long walks, hanging out in libraries and supermarkets, and working out. I live in Worcester, Massachusetts with my girlfriend and my two cats.

I loved Smilla, the oddness of it. Just interviewed Steven Soderbergh n his new flick The Girlfriend Experience. Wonderfully outrageous. And Barnes & Noble is putting up a poster in their window for Conscience Point. So a pretty good week starting up!

    Sure thing!
I can't think of any ref books on YA in particular off the top of my head... and really, you'd probably be better off looking at online resources anyway, since they are likely to be the most up to date.
Booklist online does great articles on YA books. They have some nice lists.
The YALSA site also has great lists and starting points, they have a blog and a wiki too.
VOYA has some of their past articles online, might be worth a peek.
    Also try:

I know right now in our library, for teens, they can't get enough of the Twilight-style fantasy and what I like to call "bitchy girl books". : )

    Good luck!

Absolutely! It can be used to create booklists for the public, as well as for staff use. One of the best examples I can think of off the top of my head - a while back, I had a patron who wanted recommendations of historical fiction. And of course, she wanted PERSONAL rec's, as in, I had to have read it! And wouldn't you know... every single historical fic book I've read flew right out of my brain at that moment. So, I just went into my Shelfari account and grabbed the historical fiction tag, and was able to give her 3-4 suggestions right then and there.

Book groups could use it to keep track of what they've been reading, what they might like to read, etc.

A good friend and colleague of mine, Kaite Mediatore Stover of Kansas City PL just wrote an article for RUSQ on this topic. It's in the current issue - can't get my hands on it right now unfortunately, but you should try to read it!

I am currently reading a few books! Will the Circle be Unbroken by Studs Terkel, Black by Ted Dekker, Intensity by Dean Koontz and Bunnicula, A Rabbit Tale of Mystery. Intensity is far too intense to read at night so I am trying to finish Tbe Terkel book for Author, Author. I enjoy James Patterson and have a Women's Murder Club mystery on deck to read soon! I especially enjoy John Steinbeck, the Brontes and Louisa May Alcott as far as classics go. I try to read The Iiliad and Beowulf once a year, I have gotten to Beowulf but not The Illiad yet. Nice getting to know you and I have made a note of your friend's book for the fall. Thanks for the recommendation!

I like your taste in books. The combination of Nancy Drew and Emily Bronte is pretty eclectic! I couldn't get into People of the Book, though. I just didn't believe the central character and her instant romance in the first section. If you like mystery and suspense -- and a novel of ideas -- you might enjoy my new novel, "Conscience Point." It's kind of a modern Gothic story of a strange love triangle. There's even a vaguely Heathcliffean (anti) hero.
