Unrehabilitated literary snob.
Constantly at risk of being thrown out of my bookclub for curmudgeonly commentary.
Beyond enthusiastic when in the presence of beautiful sentences.

I've been interested in Nightwood for a while now--what do you think so far?

Authors who manage complexity well impress me: Iain Pears (not his artistic mysteries), Jane Smiley's A Thousand Acres (I come from farm country, and I was amazed at the accurate portrayal of families torn apart by property quarrels).

Delirious in the presence of beautiful sentences! One reason I love Victorian authors, Jane Austen, Judith Martin (incisive analysis as well as beautiful sentences), and, dare I say, Georgette Heyer.

For johnny waco, I enjoyed Cranford and Wives & Daughters. Gentle humor and a very good picture of Mrs. Gaskell's times.

I have yet to read an Elizabeth Gaskell novel, but I'm interested in both Ruth and Mary Barton. Have you read any others besides Ruth?

Thanks for the connection! (I see you are a literary lover as well...) I see some old favorites on your shelf, and a few I haven't read but that are now beckoning me!
    What are you currently reading?

I keep with me a long, long list of books I want to buy...just last week I purchased Assassin and Housekeeping.....your notes regarding these two books are building up my hope
that neither of these books will be a waste of money
--would suggest the last good book I read: Kite Runner

I read your comments about the Blind Assassin, and agree competely. I did not see The Time Traveller's Wife (Niffenegger) on your shelf, if you have not read it, it is simply amazing.
