This immensely popular book supposedly paints a biblical picture of the end times, but it's a shocking example of proof-texting at its worst. The only scripture used in this book are a few cherry-picked verses presented totally out of context as if they conclusively prove Lindsey's preconceived notions. This book presents an interpretation of recent world problems as part of an inevitable descent into chaos, blood, and horror, but it has about as much to do with sound historical Bible teaching as Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Written somewhat in the form of a high school textbook, The Naked Communist covers and insightfully critiques the basic tenants of Karl Marx.

This book provided a deeply helpful drop-kick to my Christian beliefs about what the end-times will look like. I had always been taught to interpret the Bible as guaranteeing the end-times to be horribly traumatic, accompanied by war, famine, pestilence, fear, and tremendous suffering. After reading this book, and then carefully reexamining scripture, I find that it actually says something very different: the worst has already happened, and as the Kingdom continues advancing, the best is yet to come!

While not a glowing classic, the clever story makes this a pleasant and entertaining paperback novel for wasting away some hours.

  • Grooming the Next Generation for Success
    • Rated 5 stars

Most parents groom their kids for failure, not success, and it often takes the form of simply "going with the flow" of the culture because they cannot see the long term consequences of their decisions. In her book, Dani Johnson shares a story of going from of an abusive childhood and having all the odds against her, to grooming her own kids for success. Every parent or future parent should read this book. I constantly use these principles as a youth leader and youth mentor.
