Thanks! I think I am going to enjoy this group. May I suggest a book for you to read? "A Curse As Dark As Gold" by Elizabeth C. Bunce. I finished reading it a few days ago and I loved it.
Round Table: This is to remind all members we are reading The Once and Future King by T.H. White this month and next. Hope you will enjoy it
Dear friend sorry I have not been around as my mother is ill so i hope you are ok. We are going to be starting the next group (SAGAS) read Beowulf a 7th century heroic poem written in Old English, but as a translation by Seamus Heaney. This will run through June and July, so i hope you can join us. I have posted background info on the blog page and the group site
Are you enjoying reading The Tain this month. It will be running on into May. The language and being half verse and half prose makes it difficult at times but it will give us some themes to watch out for when we read Beowulf in June.Happy Reading
Howard, I see many titles and authors in common with the shelves in my home and in the apts of my young adult offspring. Have you encountered "Edgar Sawtelle"? It is a novel with a powerful YA character and a quest that is not fantasy, although a ghost is involved. It also shares many plot and character roles with Hamlet.
Hi my dearest friend so glad you are here, and i hope you will enjoy it as much as The Round Table as many of our members are here. I have posted the April Book read (SAGAS) The Tain under the post of that title so nobody has to buy the book and it is posted in sections so we can read it as we go along and discuss it. I hope you are still looking forward to reading the story
should have read, It could get confusing.
Howard, I suggest that you may want to remove the "Let's talk about Movin" thread, I could get confusing to new folks coming in. Just a thought. Ben
Howard, I think you made the right decision. We picked up 13 members 18 hrs ago. I have sent welcome notes to all. (so I have used my non friend 10 for the day). I had to use a friend invite, 1 was a friend, and one I had already sent. I have also sent invites to my friends that I had not previously invited that I think would be intrested. Bookwormerin and Candace were friends from other groups. But, as we have said it is not the numbers it is the participation. Ben
Sorry Howard but you are talking about closing down the group in the admin group and that has not been decided yet. Firstly I would like to know why he managed to answer you when I have been posting to him for months asking what he is going to do with the group. Is he sexist? Also as he cannot post on his own group why should he be admin to a joint group. And I do not want Ben to step down so he can be admin when he does not post. I do not know your reasons for selling out the Round Table group it is by far the best, perhaps you could let me know. None of the members of the other groups are posting at least we have some others that add. I am sorry Howard but I am quite upset about this, when I said about merging I wanted them to merge with us, maybe have Arthur and his Round Table as title of group. Being the Round Table helps open up the discussions, to modern day issues and makes everyone equal in the group, respect for their views. Arthur groups seem to only discuss films, legends, periods.
it's right to calm the waters, but my ire isn't about the fact i think meyers can't write--i feel like that poster came in trolling...and, please! there is nothing better or worse about "preference" vs. "taste"! it's all the same thing and i get all grumpy about bullies accusing other people of bad behavior. :P she might know the vocabulary of criticism, but she doesn't know the meaning.
i'm sorry--i hope that didn't sound too mean-spirited on my part. in my defense, i had a week full of bad high school girls!
i can't believe you apologised to that pseudo-intellectual little snip! sigh. though i guess i can--you seem like a nice person who wants to keep the peace...we can just take comfort in knowing we're right, right? ;)
You were my first friend here Howard and thats why I do not want to lose touch with you. I admire your humanity, and the need to get people to read so that they may grow. You stimulate the brain with your questions.
Your welcome. Not only a good dad but a excellent student are there no ends to your talents.
Howard the best students are mature students the lecturers will tell you so. I am writing the answer here as it has not shown on the group page. I went to Uni in my 50s and loved it so much. Through my history course I managed to get 6 months unpaid work at the British Museum in London, in the coins department and loved every second. My self-esteem rose, I learnt so much about myself, I recommend adult learning to anyone.
Life takes over and that is how it should be, our families first. Pop in when you can, that is what I have learnt from you being away, when I asked them about the group they said it was good and most of our members pop in when they can, and said to keep the group going.keep safe and thank you for being a friend.
Hi there,Thanks for the friend invite, as you say I am not sure why we have not already made the connection. I am not sure that I am the one to help in the group, though Mossflower certainly is, but I will assist as I can. I appreciate your consideration. I hope things settle down for you a little, and you can join us more often.Have a great weekend,Ben
Write soon howard you are missed
I just gifted my daughter with "The Host", and have read the Twilight series as soon as my young adults would share them with me. Looking at your recent titles, we have many overlaps. "Pi" is an enduring favorite for lyrical phrasing.
