Sue Ellen Welfonder has hit the jackpot with her book, DEVIL IN A KILT. I was riveted by the story from page one and couldn’t put it down until the very end. Yes, its true, I read it in one sitting. Ms. Welfonder has a vast knowledge of what Scotland was, and it shows in her work. I could almost smell the fresh herbs as they were strewn into the rushes.

Linnet MacDonnell is proud, strong and sometimes a bit cunning. Duncan Macenzie is a mysterious, sometimes ill-mannered warrior who has agreed to marry Linnet because of her gift of “sight.” The last thing Duncan wants is a beautiful wife, but he knows the moment he lays eyes upon her that he‘s been duped. Not only is she comely, but she’s good with a dirk. Everything he hoped to avoid.

The very second Linnet lays eyes upon his handsome face- she sees the familiarity- he’s the man in her childhood visions- the man with no heart. Scared, but too proud to admit it, Linnet vows to make the best of her situation and form a bond with her new husband. And from the moment she steps foot into the Black Stag’s abode, she knows the answer in which he’s been seeking. Is the boy born of his late wife, his or someone elses? Linnet knows the truth but refuses to tell him hoping that he will learn to love the boy no matter what blood runs through his veins.

Duncan thinks he’s made a huge mistake when he finds himself attracted to the wife he never wished to care for. He pushes his feelings aside trying to convince himself that he cares for Linnet but only because she is a wonderful mother to Robbie. That’s what he wanted, right? Nothing more, nothing less. But he can’t seem to keep his eyes off her, and he’s even a bit amused with the way she defies him at every turn.

Linnet learns there is more to her husband than his gruff exterior, he’s a man whose heart has been broken- a heart she intends to heal. But then she sees him near the woods one day, his demeanor totally different, friendly, happy to see her. Her heart soars because she thinks she’s finally broken through his protective barriers. But its not him- its his evil half brother Kenneth.

Kenneth hates Duncan and taunts him by saying he’s Robbie’s true father. He intends to get to Duncan by taking what means most to him- Linnet and Robbie. Can Duncan save them from his brothers evil clutches? Will Linnet tell him the truth about Robbie’s parentage? And will she be able to break down Duncan’s barriers to forge a never ending love?

You’ll have to read to see!

This was such and easy read I enjoyed every minute of it. There were times when I laughed out loud and cheered Linnets boldness, and then there were the times when I wanted to smack Duncan upside the head! I laughed, I cried and on more than one occasion I had to snuggle up in a blanket to stop the chills from the goose bumps running up and down my spine. I couldn’t have put this book down even if I had wanted too. It was as if it was glued to my fingers! I highly recommend this book to anyone with a passion for Historical Romances, especially if you are partial to Highland warriors!

Congratulations Sue Ellen Welfonder for giving me such a wonderful story to read!

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars- *****

I look forward to reading more of Sue Ellen’s works!

    Book Review- 4th of July

James Patterson with the assistance of Maxine Paetro has penned another fine thriller! This is a great addition to the other books in the Women's Murder Club series.

When Lindsay Boxer is sued for police brutality, after killing a teenage girl and paralyzing her younger brother, her future looks grim. So when she's given an unexpected vacation from the force to await the outcome of her trial, she decides to go to her sister's house for some much needed down time.

She arrives in Half Moon Bay and instead of finding relaxation; she finds herself smack dab in the middle of a string of murders. Strangely enough, a string of murders that seem eerily familiar to a case that has haunted her since her rookie days.

The Sheriff of Half Moon Bay is none too pleased that she is getting involved in the investigation and threatens to have her badge. She finally persuades Chief Stark to let her help and its then that she becomes a target as well. Several attempts are made on her life but she refuses to give up. And in one final showdown you find out exactly who The Watcher, The Seeker and The Truth, are.

AND you won't believe who they turn out to be. This is a twist you won't see coming!

Will Lindsay loose her police brutality case for having that drink with her friends? Will her badge be taken away permanently? AND is her John Doe related to the crimes in Half Moon Bay? All those questions and more will be answered if you read 4th of July.

I need to start off by saying I love James Patterson, anything and everything he writes. This book like most of his others kept me riveted from the first page to the last. The twists and turns keep you guessing and just when you think you know "who did it" you find out you're wrong! My only complaint is that the other members of the Women's murder club weren't utilized as well as I thought they could have been. It was a nice introduction to a new member of the WMC, Yuki Castellano, who seems to be able to fill Jill's shoes.

James Patterson does a wonderful job in describing the drama of the courtroom. All in all this was a great read, and I look forward to more!

I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars. ****

    Book Review- My Wicked Highlander

I want to start off by saying this is the first time I've read anything by Jen Holling, and I must say I have another new author to add to my FAVORITES! I loved every single minute of, MY WICKED HIGHLANDER. Honestly, it was such a moving story, that I didn't want it to end.

Jen holling has a passion for Scotland that shows in her beautiful descriptions. She did a fantastic job of transporting me back.

Isobel MacDonell is a strong, proud and loyal woman. Sir Philip Kilpatrick is a brave, and honorable warrior whose focus is to protect the lady he's been asked to bring home after twelve long years spent in hiding. Both of these characters have demons, and the fact that Isobel is a WITCH, can't distinguish the flames burning between them. Only problem is, Isobel is betrothed to another, a powerful Earl who is rumored to have killed his first wife.

Sir Philip finds himself wanting more than her father's appreciation for being Isobel's protector, he wants her- especially since he fears for her safety at the hands of a possible murderer.

Isobel feels the pull also, but since Philip keeps her at arms length, she doesn't know what to do. She doesn't want to deny her father's dying wish by not marrying Nicholas Lyon, Earl of Kincreag, but can she deny her heart? Does Sir Philip manage to protect Isobel from the Witch hunts going on in Scotland? And will he turn Isobel over to Earl Kincreag once they return to Lochlaire?

You'll have to read it to find out!

This is an Excellent story that kept me turning pages late into the night. I couldn't put it down and it called to me whenever I did. I never wanted this story to end. The characters were written so well that I felt I actually new them. The sexual tension between Isobel and Philip sizzled!

I experienced so many emotions. I laughed, I cried- I had goose bumps and on more than one occasion a lump in my throat so large I thought I might stop breathing. This book is everything a Romance Reader, especially those with a passion for Scotland could ever want.

Kudos to Jen Holling for a job well done!

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars- *****

    Book Review- MY DEVILISH SCOTSMAN

After reading MY WICKED HIGHLANDER, I couldn't wait to get my hands on the second book in the MacDonell Bride Series. Once again Jen Holling hits a home run with MY DEVILISH SCOTSMAN.

Unlike her sisters Gillian MacDonell is not a witch, she's not confident and she's definitely not bold. So why would an Earl want to marry her, especially after being humiliated by her sister Isobel?

Nicholas Lyon, Earl of Kincreag is cold hearted, aloof and he may have killed his first wife. But to keep from being shipped off to France, where she's expected to marry an old man, Gillian is willing to sell her soul to the devil, even if the devil is Lord Kincreag.

At first Nicholas resists the offer of marriage but softens knowing that it is his dearest friend, Alan MacDonnell's dying wish. So using her powers of persuasion, and quite a bit of boldness taught to her by her sisters, Nicholas gives in.

Gillian is hopelessly attracted to her Earl, and doesn't want to settle for a "good match," so she decides to give him a love philter, but instead of making him amorous, it makes him suspicious.

Nicholas believes she is trying to poison him and the marriage gets off to a rocky start, it becomes even rockier once Gillian arrives at Castle Kincreag. Strange things start happening and she starts to have visions. But worst of all, she believes someone may be trying to kill her? Could it be? Would Nicholas kill another wife? Gillian doesn't want to believe it, she knows he is plagued with secrets, but she's glimpsed another side to him, a vulnerable side. Hadn't she?

Or could she be seeing only what she wishes most for? Did she imagine his kindness? Was his concern not real when she'd collapsed with her head pains? Was she imagining it all or was he acting? Trying to catch her off guard? But if it wasn't him, who was it and why? And what are these visions she keeps seeing? All fingers are pointing to Nicholas, even her sisters, who are witches, think him guilty. But is he? Or are there other sources of evil at work? AND when he finds her casting a spell with her sisters, will he protect her like he promised her father or will she face the same fate as her mother?

You'll have to read to find out!

Jen Holling has done it again. With a sweep of her pen she creates such heart-wrenching emotion, and a vivid picture of what Medieval Scotland must have been like. I fell in love with Gillian from the very start, she isn't the bold heroine that we normally see, but she grows into her own women as the book progresses. The attraction and love between the two characters is heartbreakingly warm and you can't help but cheer them on. The beginning hook is so intense that you won't be able to stop reading because of all the unanswered questions swirling through your mind. I had to resist the urge to peek! This story has so many twists and turns, and a few surprises that will keep you turning pages.

Congratulations again Ms. Holling on another wonderful book!

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars! *****

Now I can't wait to read, MY SHADOW WARRIOR, the final book in the MacDonell bride series.
