I am yet another passionate reader to join shelfari. Outside of reading I enjoy listening to Jazz, World, and Alternative music for the most part. My other interests beside reading include art, writing, yoga, mediocre dancing, activism, and ultimate frisbee. My central focus in books is mostly memoirs and fiction that appeal to my personal interests (art, travel, diversity, poetry, history, and so the list goes on). I read about world happenings, personal struggles, and about history. My apologies, is the word history becoming redundant?
Social justice is of utmost importance to me, and is absolutely my sublime calling. I urge more people to read about the ongoing genocide in Darfur, Sudan. This is my chance to speak up about my fury towards the ignorance of some people in this world. Most everyone knows about the holocaust, where jews around the world were persecuted, whether in a concentration camp, or by the antisemetic vibes of their previously trusted neighbors. A majority of my book shelf is full of books about people who witnessted it, fiction or non. In the world of genocides there was Rwanda, Armenia, and many other places where people have suffered. Right now, these atrocities are occuring in Darfur, located in Sudan. Over 400,000 people have died, 2 million have fled from their homes, and all this just because they are not Arab, but African. It has been four years, and only now is it gaining some recognition. Please learn more and help at: www.savedarfur.org
