“'Prepared to Answer: A Step-by-Step Guide to Bring the Power of Christian Evidences to Your Life', by Rob van de Weghe. Finished 23 Feb 2008.
0/5 stars. I enjoy and admire good Christian books, but this was one of the most insufferably ignorant books I have ever read. I am suspicious of books that start off by proclaiming that the reader should put away all subjectivity and weigh all evidence from all sides thoroughly. Such books typically proceed to throw all objectivity out the window by the next page and this book is no exception. Van de Weghe throws many old apologetic arguments at the reader, from Whitcomb and Morris' laughable interpretations of Geology to match a 6000 year-old earth, to numerological codes hidden in the Biblical text to authenticate its Divine origin. Better shenanigans of this style are presented by the ever-entertaining and thoroughly bizzare teachings of people like Chuck Missler.
This book is a compendium of bad Christian apologetic arguments that have been around for decades - everything from CS Lewis' 'Lord Liar Lunatic', Pascal's Wager, and even kitchen sinks like the claim that some Chinese characters were invented to represent Biblical concepts and ideas - they are all here. This was an extremely frustrating book to read, and I could only shake my head at such bull-headed ignorance. ”
