I'm a graduate student in linguistics and try to fit in as much pleasure reading as I can. My favorite genres are Gothic and Decadent literature. I like period pieces, fairy tales, supernatural elements (especially ghosts and vampires), sad stories, homosexual themes, religious themes, madness, and most of all, beautiful prose. I also like... more »

The book of disquiet is just a series of like meditations, its written from an interesting view point. I think the trick to reading it, is take your time, theres no story so what I did was read a novel as well and just picked it up when I felt like it. Hope you like it. Nick

Well, I'm glad to know you liked Turn of the Screw, but I regret to tell you that a lot of us weren't happy with it. Too slow and not interesting.

Funny you say that. I used to use Swaptree, but their policies got to be a bit much for me. Very strict and legalistic. PBS is more relaxed and user friendly. I wonder why the libraries aren't carrying it. I heard that some of the author's sentiments are considered "anti-American", so maybe that has something to do with it.... Although not having read the book, I have no idea. I will keep looking! It's on my wish list:). Thanks for the recommendation.

I haven't been able to find it yet. I checked with all of the libraries in my district. I use an online book trading site called PaperBackSwap and they don't have it in their database either... hmmm... maybe have to resort to Amazon:).

Glad you liked Edward Tulane. It was a really sweet book, kind of touching. That would be great if you could get your book autographed. Gives it a personal touch!

Ha, yeah, the Historian is a beast - definitely not something you can tuck into a bag. After I read it I wanted to see Romania:).

The Swan Thieves was excellent! Kind of a slow starter, but worth the wait. The theme is somewhat similar to A Beautiful Mind... dealing with topics of madness, art, and genius, and how the two so often intersect. No Vlad the Impaler or vampire lore in this one; the historical fiction is about the art scene in Paris in the 1800s. Very interesting - even if you don't like Impressionism:).

It was sad (I can see little kids having nightmares), but at least it had a happy ending. I loved the extreme detail about his wardrobe:).... his buttons and silk trousers. Quite the pampered, proper rabbit.. such a fashionista. At least in the beginning.

If you like kids books about a mouse, try "The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane". It's perfect. I had nothing to read on the train one day, so I picked this up and couldn't stop reading it. I actually read it twice - on the way there and on the way back. Oh, and how can I forget the Hermux Tantamoq books by Hoeye.... classics:).
