1. Frequent visitor of stores selling second-hand books (If you've never been to the 4th floor of National Bookstore in Cubao, you're missing a LOT! You should try www.avalon.ph too for some hard-to-find books - some even have the authors' signatures! And of course, I should never forget the bookstalls along AS Walk and inside the Shopping Center in UP Diliman.)
2. Collects Booker-prize winning books. I don't know/forgot how this started. Don't me ask me "why Booker?" either, I've no answer. I'm still far from completing my collection though, but I'm in no hurry. (I once saw The Bone People by Kerry Hulme in BookSale selling for only 25 pesos, but the thing is I didn't buy it. I never forgave myself. Hahaha.)
3. I feel a little "vomit-y" (as Estha likes to say it from The God of Small Things) when I read while inside a moving vehicle. I once read that this shouldn't be the case unless 1) I'm hungry or 2) there's no proper ventilation.
4. I read anything. My mom told me once: you can always learn something... even from old newspapers being used to wrap dried fish. And: it shouldn't always be about what the author is telling you; sometimes, how it's being told bears more significance. And she always dreamt of having a library and I guess we share that passion to read.
5. I started with my little gold-lined Disney books and local Filipino komiks, eventually moving on to the Are You Afraid of the Dark? and Goosebumps series (I liked the "Choose your adventure" ones). Then I turned to the classics when I felt ready for more serious stuff. Then I decided to let loose and go "free-for-all", not focusing on a particular genre. But I've always been interested to a particular topic: time.
