  • Beats, Rhymes, and Life: What We Love and Hate About Hip-Hop
    • Rated 4 stars

A nice eclectic mix of essays and interviews that explore hip-hop as a culture from a wide range of opinions and vantage points. This anthology represents a critical look at the culture from those who are living it and those who have distanced themselves from it in order to live and stay sane. You may not agree with everything enclosed in the pages, but if you are a true hip-hop head I dare you not to find at least ten-fifteen things in this book you can identify with. Kudos to the editors for compiling this complex look at the culture.

Victoria Wells is a very talented author and the story keep me turning the pages until the wee hours of the morning. I liked the way she had Nick and Summer work through their issues. Too many times in romance we don't get to see a couple really struggle and work for their happily-ever-after. But Nick and Summer have several trials and tribulations on their road to true love. Personally, I love it when novels portray a love worth fighting for. Victoria wells has penned a real page turner about the enduring power of love. Kudos.

This series just keeps getting better and better. I really enjoyed Clay and Tally's story. I guess I'm a sucker for friends to lovers stories. And they had such a strong bond from childhood that it just made me root for them all the more. The chemistry between them jumped off the page from page one. With each installment in this series I get a new favorite in the series. Singh is an amazing writer and the world she has created is just so dynamic and complex and you just get sucked right in. I can't wait for the next installment.

  • African Women and Feminism: Reflecting on the Politics of Sisterhood
    • Rated 5 stars

This is an amazing collection of essays that really take on western imperialist critiques of Africa that come under the guise of feminist sisterhood. The prose is dynamic and probing. The authors included here really do a marvelous job of deconstructing Western Feminist attempts to state for African women what their issues should be. And the essays do not just critique white Western feminist, but also African American women who uncritically don the imperialist gaze. The authors are witty and on-point and will make you think about how you approach other cultures in your research.

  • The Ex Factor: A Novel
    • Rated 5 stars

This book had me laughing out loud so many times and turning the pages like crazy. The sisters were off the chain. I love that the author created characters that were so complex. I could honestly feel for each of them and feel a multitude of things. I had empathy for them, got pissed off at them, wanted to grab them and shake them, rooted for them to get it together... in short she made me care about these women even when they were f*cking up. I came to this author late and have since found her other books. I'll definitely be reading the next one. Great read!

Loved me some Vera and Taj. This book had a nice mix of drama and laugh-out-loud antics. Tu-Shonda Whitaker is becoming one of my must read authors.

  • Enchanting Melody (Kimani Romance)

Great romance about what happens when opposites attract! I loved the characterization in this novel. And when Will finally realized what he needed to do to win Melody, he went all out. Great read.

  • Casanegra: A Tennyson Hardwick Story
    • Rated 5 stars

The characters stayed with me long after I closed the book and the action and suspense was top notch. I do think that the murder mystery was solved a little too neatly at the end. I didn't like the way it all just came to him. But I couldn't put the book down. The writing was engaging and captivating.

I absolutely loved this book. It had so many funny scenes, emotional scenes and HOT scenes. I've already re-read parts of it again. She wrote the hell out of this book.
