Amazing! This novel is absolutely amazing! The characterization is so crisp and the plot is so engaging I could not put it down. I love the way GiGi Gunn drew me into the world of this character-driven novel. The characters are all unique and have quirks and flaws that make them real. The side characters add depth and flesh out the story nicely. This author has written a truly captivating enduring love story. I loved the fact that Aiden had loved Sassy from afar from the first moment he saw her. And the speech that he gives her at the end when he proclaims his love...my goodness my heart just exploded and tears came to my eyes as I read it. This novel is a must read for folks looking for a great love story. I can't wait to read more from this very talented author.

I loved this book! It had me laughing out loud so much my husband kept giving me the side-eye. All I can say is this was a stunning debut novel. Lori Johnson certainly has a knack for really getting into the character's POV and honing the voice so perfectly they leap off the pages. I swear as I read the novel it felt like I was one of Faye's friends and she was giving me the dish... And I felt like I was eavesdropping on Carl talking to one of his boys. This novel takes she said, he said to the next level and leaves the reader with an awesome tale about a fun-filled journey to love. If you want a novel that is going to make you laugh, make you smile and give you a good dose of drama, this is the novel for you. And can I just say for all the women who have ever had a fool like Scoobie in their lives, this books is darn near cathartic! LOL. Read this book. You won't regret it!

This was an amazing tale of forgiveness and personal growth. From the first page, Shay jumped of the page at me and the prose refused to let me go. I laughed out loud, felt extreme sadness, and had moments of deep thought and contemplation as I read this novel. The relationship between black mothers and daughters is such fertile ground for amazing story-telling and Brice has given us a winner with Orange Mint and Honey. The characterization is crisp. The voice is powerful. And this novel is a must read. I plan to read it again and again. It's a keeper.

    Reviews for Protect and Serve

Bolton proves why she is an award-winning author in this captivating story. She stirs in dangers of the hood, mixes in a little dysfunctional family spice, and peppers the story with the breakdown of friendships which cooks up a sensual love story. The characters add to the recipe by using strong emotions that will unveil family secrets that will either tear them apart or bring them together. As in most African American families, Big Mama's spirit helps them - to forgive each other, overcome prideful spirits and love as families should. Protect and Serve is the first part in the Hightower Honors series and if this is any indication of future installments…they are must haves for any romance lover. ~ Deltareviewer, The Real Page Turners Reviewers, 5 Stars

Protect and Serve is a powerful story about truth and drama in the ‘hood.' Ms. Bolton captures the primal essence of the hopelessness prevailing in the inner city while showing the strengths of family, spirituality and love that is essential in overcoming that hopelessness. A truly beautiful love story that will keep you captivated until the end. ~ Lani Roberts, Affaire de Coeur Magazine, 5 Stars

A well written book with thwarted love and a little mystery thrown into the mix, PROTECT AND SERVE is a sensual romance with which to while away a pleasant afternoon. The romantic tension and sizzle when Penny and Jason are in the same room make this a book a romance that readers won’t want to miss. ~ Marilyn Heyman, Romance Reviews Today

Protect and Serve was a real life story that answered the question of whether home is really where the heart is. Bolton addressed many issues that suddenly pop up while preparing for a funeral and some issues that families simply try to hide and not discuss. The story was funny, a bit of a mystery and romantic. Once you meet the Hightower family, I am sure you will look forward to reading the other books in the series. ~ Priscilla C. Johnson, APOOO Book Club, 4 Stars

Nobody does enduring romance better than Gwyneth Bolton…You'll never have to skip a love scene in PROTECT AND SERVE, providing the Sensual Heat Level is in your comfort zone as a romance reader. And maybe even if it isn't… No author writes a better sensual love scene than Gwyneth Bolton, in my opinion… If you asked me last week which one was my favorite, I would have said SWEET SENSATION. Today, I just don't know. PROTECT AND SERVE is right up there with it. ~ Kimber An, Enduring Romance

Gwyneth Bolton masterfully handles some serious social issues in Protect and Serve without allowing them to overpower the romance. ~ Debbie R. Sims, Romantic Times Book Review

The imagery and artistic feel of this novel is matched by the desire and passion. And they all work together to paint a vision so breathtaking, so emotion-filled, so damn good you just become enthralled in the story telling. Leslie Esdaile has an amazing gift. Parts of this novel had me moved to tears, other parts fanning myself, and grinning to myself as I watched Jason and Deborah fall in love. This book is just amazingly executed. Everything came together to paint this vivid picture of a love so real it made me wish the book didn't have to end.

Ellen Hartman writes character-driven novels that make you care--I mean really make you care. The scenes between the father and son broke my heart and brought tears to my eyes. She's an awesome story-teller and I can't wait to see what she writes next.

I love a good friends to lovers plot and Rochon doesn't disappoint in her second novel. Toby and Cee Cee were a great couple with a sweet, sexy love that was made to last. Can't wait to see what the next Holmes brother brings...

I really enjoyed this novel. I loved the fact that Dyanne Davis weaved a subtle but funny as all get out critique of the romance genre throughout. And the romance between Jared and Toreas was full of sparks from beginning to end. I just knew when those two finally got it together they were going to burn up the pages and Davis did just that. I think this is now my favorite Dyanne Davis romance novel.
