Awesome, just awesome! I loved this book and can't wait for Quentin's story.

Best one in the series so far in my opinion... I love how the author uses each book to really dive into all of the emotions and analytical ideas about both submitting and dominating. And she doesn't recycle and repeat issues and reasons in each book. The series really works as an exploration into the hearts and minds of doms and subs. Another thing that she doesn't recycle or reuse in the series is those wonderfully creative, hot and sexy sex scenes. She is really, really good at creating some toe-curling, heart-throbbing scenes that will have you saying, "yes, sir..." as you read. Great book! Great series! Really good writing!

This book was really good. The only thing that stopped it from being great was that we really needed Ted's POV a lot earlier in the book. Not having his POV almost the end just made the read a tiny bit less satisfying. But it was still classic SEP and Meg was an awesome heroine. Loved her!

This was a really "tweet" love story. It could and really should be made into a movie, think "You've Got Mail" meets "An Affair to Remember" meets "Steel Magnolias"... Or something like that. LOL. I'll say this about this wonderful novel, it took me through a variety of emotions. I laughed. I cried. I laughed some more. I loved it. It was a quick enjoyable read that I think everyone should check out!

Cord was the ultimate hero and this was an enjoyable read. The author does way more "telling" than "showing" and the story could have been told with a lot more finesse. But the bones are strong and good and O'Connell creates characters that make you want to follow them into their world. I think she's definitely an author to watch. I don't even like reading historical romances and certainly not westerns, but this book grabbed me and wouldn't let me go. O'Connell is a true story teller and once she works on the "show don't tell" issues she will only grow stronger. Really good read!

Here’s what the reviewers are saying about Rivals in Paradise:

“Ms. Bolton infuses this story with all the humor, emotion-filled drama, passion and witty dialogue readers have come to treasure in her writing. I loved the interplay between Cicely and Chase but there were secondary characters who captured my attention as well. My favorite is Chase’s mother who is an absolute delight with her friendly nature – not to mention a crack shot with a dishtowel. There are other characters you’ll adore and even one you’ll love to hate! RIVALS IN PARADISE is a fun read but it also touches you emotionally as you begin to understand Cicely’s reasons for dating men who are obviously wrong for her – and how right Chase could be if she’d just give him a chance.”
5 Blue Ribbons, Chrissy Dionne for Romance Junkies

“Bolton, once again, has given her readers a romance story that will have you on the edge of your seat. Under the bright full moon on the shores of the Caribbean, Cicely and Chase begin to build a passionate and sexy relationship that will leave readers breathless.”
5 Stars, Priscilla Johnson for APOOO Book Club

“Bolton does it again with mixing love and music with a dreamy 4.5 star romance. Cicely and Chase are complicated characters that realize how change is necessary for love to grow. Their love/hate relationship is awe-inspiring and the music-infused island paradise makes me want to take a trip. There are a few instances where the fights are superfical and not essential to the story. RIVALS IN PARADISE is a page turning account of love that will keep you enthralled in the story.” 4.5 stars, Monique Bruner for Real Page Turners

“The chemistry between Cicely and Chase gave a new meaning to It’s a thin line between love and hate. All that pent-up yearning for each other finally exploded. The secondary characters brought some serious twists and turns that gave the story that boost and continued page turner. Chase’s mother Margie entertained you quite well. The nerve tester would definitely be Isaac (the ex-boyfriend) and Leonard, Cicely’s head leader at work. Both could definitely rub you the wrong way… Ms. Bolton continues to enlighten us with her talented writing. I was able to read this book in less than a day and felt it was an excellent read. I know you won’t be disappointed.” 4+++ Keren Childers for Romance in Color

Helena Andrews has a gift for prose. I found her essays to be witty and perceptive. It was so funny to read them as someone who is just a generation before her, noting that even though the technology and what not might be different, it still hasn't gotten any easier to be a young, smart, motivated, and single, black girl these days. Reading this book reminded me when I brought a Carolyn Rodger's poem to a seminar when I was in graduate school, the one that starts, "I am lonely... all of the people I know, I know too well..." And my professor at the time a black woman two generations ahead of me said surely you can't relate to this poem, it's supposed to be better for you and a young woman a generation behind me said she could relate too and my professor just shook her head. Reading Bitch is the New Black is like affirmation for some black women, especially those who did the college, grad school, professionalization route. We either know women like Helena or she reminds us of ourselves. The book is funny, if not always PC... But it will also make you think. I highly recommend this memoir.

Normally, it takes a lot for me to get into books written in the first person. I have to really-really love the narrator to keep reading past the first chapter. Ernessa T. Carter managed to pull me in with Davie. But that's not why this book is getting five stars from me. It's getting five stars because it's smart and funny as all get out. And she takes risk craft-wise that I just love. Like the fact that we should be able to trust the narrator and we totally do when in hindsight we shouldn't trust this little trickster worth a damn! LOL. She's sweet and likable but she also a hustling survivor. Davie Jones made her way out of hell because people underestimated her. The story actually depends on readers doing the same. And for that reason, I give this book five stars, bravo and a hell-yeah-do-that-shit! Good stuff! This is a book I would teach in a contemporary black women's writers course or even a popular culture course. And of course it's a must read!

Delightful! Any book that can tap into my love of competition cooking shows and romance has me at "hello." Add the fact that Robyn Amos is really great at weaving the most funny and endearing stories to the mix and you've got a definite winner. This is a must read!

  • Shadow Walker
    • Rated 5 stars

WOW! I am usually hard-pressed to read YA books. But I am so addicted to the Vampire Huntress Legends that I even got the comic book. I had been going through withdrawal since the VHL series ended, and couldn't wait for the series about the Neturu Guardian kids to start. Shadow Walker was worth the wait. I downloaded the book yesterday and literally stayed up all night reading it. I couldn't stop. This book reels you in from page one and doesn't let you go until the end. Watching Damali and Carlos's children, Sarah and Alejandro, come into their own is going to be just as thrilling as it was to watch the parents. Sarah is going to be a force! Talk about a bad-ass in the making, and her sweetness and humility just make her all the more endearing. You won't be able to stop yourself from rooting for her. This is a must read for any VHL fan and anyone who likes their fantasy adventure series to have lots of teeth! Keep shelf and definitely one to be re-read and savored again and again! Great start to the series!
