(But Adrian is about to do somethng really dramatic.)
"Erica?" temporarily ignoring Malaria - as part o the act - Adrian lifted Erica's face to his, both allowing their eyes to meet. The frost in Erica's large stormy blue eyes melted instantly as they met those of the only man she had ever and could ever love.
"Wat?" her voice was soft, hopeful. Could this be the night? THEIR night? Is that what he wanted from her? her virginity? Then he could have it! She loved him.
"Come with me. I have a present for you..."
As if on cue, Desdemona - the announcer - loudly cleared her throat and lifted the microphone to hr scarlet lips, commanding the attention of the spactators. The glaring light of a harsh ivory spotlight lit up the spot where Erica and Adrian stood, hands intwined. Once again, all eyes were glued upon the couple.
"Erica..." Adrian began slowly, taking his time, wording this very autiousy. "From the moment I met you...I-I knew that we were soulmates, destined to e together. I know I've given you a hard time and I'm sorry for that, really, I am. I hope you can forgive me aand I fully intend to make up for al the pain and suffering I've put you through. Even if it takes me the rest of my life."
Whispers spread like a wild fire through the crowds, sparking excitement and conversation like eletricity as Adrian slowly but purposefully lowered himself to the ground, getting down on one knee. Looking up at Erica, she looked truly radiant. The spotlight's luminous light caused her porcelain skin to glow so eerily yet beautifully, it was almost magical. It took his breath away.
"Erica Night, would you be so kind as to give me the honor..." he paused. "Of being your husband: To have and to hold from the day of our wedding forward, for richer or poorer, in sickness in health and nevr let death do us part? What I mean is, will you marry me?"
Erica was literally speechless. She glanced oer at her grandmother, only to find no trace of surprise in the old woman's face. Sh and Adrian had planned this! Awww, he had asked for her grandmother's blessing. That was the sweetest thing he had ever done for her! How could she possibly refuse an eternity with the love of her life?"
"I would be honored to have you as my husband, Adrian," a grin as broad and maic as that of the Cheshire cat lit up the face of the birthday girl as Adrian pulled from a small black box a silver-banded ruby ring. A large ruby in the shape of a heart, either side of which were two glistening diamonds n the shape of pointed vampire's fangs. He carefully slid the ring onto her tiny finger both sharng a smile.
