      A:1 - Minerva McGonagall - A True Wizard
Madam Professor Minerva McGonagall (born October 4th, 1935) was a witch and Animagus who attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry from 1947 to 1954 and was sorted into Gryffindor House. After her education, she worked for two years at the Ministry of Magic and later returned to Hogwarts, where she became Head of Gryffindor House, Transfiguration professor and concurrently, at differing times, Deputy Headmistress and Headmistress of Hogwarts.

McGonagall was also a member of the First and Second Order of the Phoenix. In 1995, she opposed Dolores Umbridge, the High Inquisitor of Hogwarts. She also protected the students from Alecto and Amycus Carrow from 1997 until 1998, and as part of this resistance movement, fought in several battles of both wars, including the Battle of the Astronomy Tower and the Battle of Hogwarts (where she led the resistance against Lord Voldemort). She survived the Second Wizarding War and continued her job as Headmistress for at least ten years, and retired sometime in the 2000's and 2010's.

      ~ A1:

      MINERVA MCGONALL

      Birthday:
      4th October
      Wand:
Fir and dragon heartstring, nine and a half inches, stiff
      Hogwarts house:
      Gryffindor
      Special abilities:
Animagus (distinctively marked silver tabby cat)
      Parentage:
      Muggle father, witch mother
      Family:
Husband Elphinstone Urquart, deceased. No children
      Hobbies:
Needlework, correcting articles in Transfiguration Today, watching Quidditch, supporting the Montrose Magpies

Minerva McGonagall was the first child, and only daughter, of a Scottish Presbyterian minister and a Hogwarts-educated witch. She grew up in the Highlands of Scotland in the early twentieth century, and only gradually became aware that there was something strange, both about her own abilities, and her parents’ marriage.

As is often the case where the young witch or wizard comes from a family who has struggled with its magical identity, Hogwarts was, for Minerva McGonagall, a place of joyful release and freedom.

Minerva drew unusual attention to herself on her very first evening, when she was revealed to be a Hatstall. After five and a half minutes, the Sorting Hat, which had been vacillating between the houses of Ravenclaw and Gryffindor, placed Minerva in the latter. (In later years, this circumstance was a subject of gentle humour between Minerva and her colleague Filius Flitwick, over whom the Sorting Hat suffered the same confusion, but reached the opposite conclusion. The two Heads of house were amused to think that they might, but for those crucial moments in their youths, have exchanged positions).

Minerva was quickly recognised as the most outstanding student of her year, with a particular talent for Transfiguration. As she progressed through the school, she demonstrated that she had inherited both her mother’s talents and her father’s cast-iron moral sense. Minerva’s school career overlapped by two years with that of Pomona Sprout, later Head of Hufflepuff House, and the two women enjoyed an excellent relationship both then, and in later years.

By the end of her education at Hogwarts, Minerva McGonagall had achieved an impressive record: top grades in O.W.L.s and N.E.W.T.s, Prefect, Head Girl, and winner of the Transfiguration Today Most Promising Newcomer award. Under the guidance of her inspirational Transfiguration teacher, Albus Dumbledore, she had managed to become an Animagus; her animal form, with its distinctive markings (tabby cat, square spectacles markings around eyes) were duly logged in the Ministry of Magic’s Animagus Registry. Minerva was also, like her mother, a gifted Quidditch player, although a nasty fall in her final year (a foul during the Gryffindor versus Slytherin game which would decide the Cup winner) left her with concussion, several broken ribs and a lifelong desire to see Slytherin crushed on the Quidditch pitch. Though she gave up Quidditch on leaving Hogwarts, the innately competitive Professor McGonagall later took a keen interest in the fortunes of her house team, and retained a keen eye for Quidditch talent.

      DEVELOPMENTS IN TRANSFIGURATION

Transfiguration is a branch of magic that focuses on the alteration of the form or appearance of an object. Transfiguration is divided into four branches: Transformation, Vanishment, Conjuration and Untransfiguration.
Muggle dictionaries describe Transfiguration as 'A marked change in form or appearance; a metamorphosis' or 'A change that glorifies or exalts'

During his student years at Hogwarts School in the 1890s, Albus Dumbledore wrote some papers to the magazine, at least one of which on Trans-Species Transformation. at least one of which on Trans-Species Transformation. Bathilda Bagshot was favourably impressed with the paper, leading to her acquaintance with him and the Dumbledore family. n her student years, in the 1950s, Minerva McGonagall was awarded with the Transfiguration Today Most Promising Newcomer award. In her adult years, McGonagall became Transfiguration teacher at Hogwarts School, and in her spare time she made the scientifical revision of the articles in the magazine.

Minerva McGonagall was the Transfiguration professor when Harry Potter himself was at Hogwarts. This wonderful woman was very close to Dumbledore. . She was the head of Gryffindor house. Her classes were challenging and run with a firm hand. She was rather stern and did not tolerate bad behavior. She did, however, care greatly for her students, and was respectful to her fellow staff. She was an active member of the Order of the Phoenix. She appeared in her sixtys/seventies. She had long grey hair that she wore most often in a tight bun. She had bright blue eyes and pale skin. She was born on October fourth. Her Patronus was a tabby cat. She was a Animagus, she became a tabby cat with square spectacle markings around it's eyes. She preformed the Sorting ceromonise each year.

      A1:
MINERVA MCGONAGALL - A CLEVER WITCH

      Birthdate: October 4
      Birthyear: approximately 1925
Name: Minerva was the Roman goddess of wisdom. McGonagall's last name comes from poet Sir William Topaz McGonagall.

Hair: Black, pulled back into a bun
      Eyes: Square glasses, beady eyes.
Distinguishing features: rarely smiles ; she wears tartan plaids -- even her nightdress and dressrobes are tartan.

Animagus: a tabby cat with square markings around its eyes.
Patronus: a tabby cat with spectacle eye markings.
Hogwarts: Transfiguration Professor 1956-1998; Deputy Headmistress 1991-1998.
House: Gryffindor (c. 1937-44); Head of Gryffindor 1991-1998.
      Field: Transfiguration.
Office: First floor (up the main staircase, down a corridor).
Affiliation: Member of the Order of the Phoenix.
Interests: She is very keen on Quidditch.

The Transfiguration professor and Deputy Headmistress at Hogwarts for over forty years, and a powerful witch and Animagus, McGonagall has a stern exterior, keeping her classes strictly controlled and following the rules closely, yet has a warm heart and cares deeply for her friends and students. She also played a vital role in the Order of the Phoenix, valiantly directing the final battle against Voldemort. Professor McGonagall has dark hair which she pulls into a bun, wears glasses, and is frequently dressed in tartan plaids.

McGonagall was the head of Gryffindor House during Harry’s years at Hogwarts and was known for teaching challenging classes. She did not break rules or tolerate misbehavior. She also refused to favor her own house; however, McGonagall cared deeply about Gryffindor’s success . She cried when Gryffindor won the Quidditch Cup.

Underneath her stern exterior, it was always clear that McGonagall cared deeply for her students. Her first instinct was to protect them at all times, and she could become quite emotional when they were hurt. Even at Voldemort’s first defeat she did not celebrate, but instead mourned at the passing of James and Lily. McGonagall often got emotional over Harry’s safety in particular; she was proud to have him in her house and was one of those who cried loudest when she believed him dead.

Though generally respectful of her fellow teachers, McGonagall had little patience for less competent colleagues. A sarcastic wit came out, for instance, in talking with Lockhart or Trelawney; though she was willing to defend even Trelawney – and lead the school in revolt – when faced with Dolores Umbridge. She is a tough woman; McGonagall took four stunning spells to the chest and survived, although she walked with a walking stick for awhile afterwards.

McGonagall had a great admiration and trust for Albus Dumbledore, passionately defending him and being more than willing to fight on his behalf. When he was gone, McGonagall stepped up to fill his shoes; she drove Snape from Hogwarts and, completely trusting Harry’s instructions, willingly led the school in the Battle against Voldemort – even dueling Voldemort herself as the battle drew to a close. She was also one of the first to rush to Harry upon Voldemort’s defeat, symbolic of the important place she held both in his life and in the wizarding world.

Minerva McGongall is an Animagus, able to turn into a cat with markings around the eyes, similar to her square spectacles. Her Patronus is also a cat. She traditionally performs the Sorting ceremony at the Welcoming Feast.

      A2:

Transfiguration is a branch of magic that focuses on the alteration of the form or appearance of an object, via the alteration of the object's molecular structure. Transfiguration can be done to most (if not all) objects and as with most forms of magic it includes - but hardly limited to - Transfiguration spells.

During his student years at Hogwarts School in the 1890s, Albus Dumbledore wrote some papers to the magazine, at least one of which on Trans-Species Transformation. Bathilda Bagshot was favourably impressed with the paper, leading to her acquaintance with him and the Dumbledore family. Almost a century later, in 1991, Dumbledore was still an attentive reader of this periodical.

In the summer of 1993, during Harry Potter's stay at the Leaky Cauldron in London, he noticed some venerable-looking wizards arguing over the latest article in Transfiguration Today over breakfast.

In her student years, in the 1950s, Minerva McGonagall was awarded with the Transfiguration Today Most Promising Newcomer award. In her adult years, McGonagall became Transfiguration teacher at Hogwarts School, and in her spare time she made the scientifical revision of the articles in the magazine.

In 1999, the magazine ran an advertisement on the Daily Prophet, which included a coupon entitling the bearer to a free Muggle Guard with the December, 1999 issue.
