I keep hearing about Virgin River. What's it like? Contemporary? Cowboys?

Contemporary, I would say.. Most of the male characters are military.. Marines, Reserves.. that type of thing.

It's contemporary romance. A bit hard to describe the appeal but it is highly addictive. Imagine people who embody community with some fairly delectable men (many ex-Marines) who end up in the town of Virgin River.

Here's more info about the series:

I don't really read contemporary, but I figure there must be something to it with so many people reading it. Maybe I'll see if I can find the first one. Do they have to be read in order? I noticed book 16 (?) was on Net Galley.

Ooh. Not one I'd recommend reading out of order. The character continuation is even stronger than that in the In Death series and they play substantive roles in the plots from book to book.

The first 4 books are bundled very cheaply on Amazon if you're interested.

I read many Sandra Browns back in the 80's and 90's,but they have blurred together now,not helped by the fact that in UK we had different covers,Do remember Adam's Fall though, read and enjoyed twice!

I've read several Sandra Brown books over the years. Some are very good and others are a little hard to take. Adam's Fall is one of my keepers.

I'm reading White Hot by Sandra Brown right now. Not sure what to think about this one. It's very wordy and slow moving.

I just finished Eloquent Silence and really enjoyed it. In the book Drake is an actor on a Soap Opera and his daughter (Jennifer) is deaf and living in a school. Drake wants to move Jennifer to New Mexico and asks the school who they would recommend as a live in tutor. The Director of the school recommends Lauri. When the Director asked Lauri to meet Drake and sent her to where he worked she wasn't told what his job was.. haha. So Lauri was shocked and of course already had an opinion of Drake before meeting him (Typical huh). Drake's character to me seemed like it had the popularity equivalent to The Greys Anatomy guys. Anyways, I loved that Lauri wasn't afraid to speak her mind to Drake even though he was a popular TV star. When Lauri met him he didn't know much sign language and as a result couldn't communicate with Jennifer very much.

In the beginning I really didn't like Drake, but came to love him after a while. He was very willing to learn ASL (American Sign Language) to be able to talk to Jennifer and he really loved his daughter. Jennifer was just so adorable, I loved her from the beginning.

It was cool to listen to this story. The narrator was great. I enjoyed the storyline and the characters.

I've finished reading Tough Customer and while it was a good book over all it took me forever to get into it and there were parts where I felt it could have moved at a faster pace. I enjoyed the characters and wanted to see where their relationships would go, so I kept reading otherwise I probably would have stopped. But that is just me.

Have read, and except for 3.8.and 10,reread all of these.Nora is just one of those few authors that I can reread, especially in the crime book area.In most cases once we solve the crime I dont care to reread, but in the case of Nora's work, there is so much more to the books,Eve/Roarke relationship of course, but also all the characters around them that we come to love.Odd to think that in Naked we only saw Mavis and Feeney!

I can relate to wanting your family to be happy before you leave and do something on your own.. although I was a little like Amy when I turned 18 and up and left town (but there was many reasons behind that.. lol).

@Dusty-Catcher seemed to have far more resonance in the early teen years than as an adult. Today, I'd find it a bit annoying, but the angst somehow was more appealing as a young person.

Kristen-Glad you enjoyed Time Traveler. One of my favorites. I continued to seek out her other books and while I've enjoyed them, I can't say they were nearly as good as Time Traveler. In my opinion, Anne of Green Gables is even better in book than the charming series you reference having seen, which is fun too.

Finished The Golden Lily and really enjoyed it. Was really happy that you got to learn more about Adrian. In the Vampire Academy books he always comes across as a spoiled rich kid who doesn't care about anything and would rather just sit around and drink.. but you get to see a little deeper into him here and I came to like him... (He's still not one of my favorites from the Vampire Academy/Bloodlines books, but he's slowly gaining ground.) Adrian and Sydney are really good together also :) But then I could tell that from the first book in this series, so it wasn't much of a surprise.

I've never read this author before and wasn't sure if the story was gonna pull me in. I was thrilled when I started this book and the characters just pulled me in, they had depth and were believable. The mystery was good and kept me guessing through out the book. I enjoyed it and am looking forward to reading more by this author and in this series.

I loved the series and hated that it ended.. so I continued on to the Graphic Novels once I found them at my library.

YES! I have seen most of Whedon's stuff. Have you see SMG's new show Ringer? That is my tv obsession.

I've finished Here's the Deal, Don't Touch Me by Howie Mandel and really enjoyed it. I have always found him interesting and it was cool to learn more about him. He is very blunt about a lot of the things he did when first starting out. That otherwise people wouldn't know. Overall it was good, and fun to read.

Yes I liked it. I will be reading the next one.. The first one has left me with enough interest that I want to continue. Also, I have this issue with leaving a series unfinished... I have only ever done it once, and it still bugs me that I stopped that series.. lol

I figured i might as well make categories out of them considering i'll probably wind up reading them anyways.

..so it's not just me then! I haven't quite filled up my lists, BUT, I did have to make a little post explaining why I had left some free spaces! LOL! You know, just in case somebody thought I was being lazy or unorganised.

Good to know I'm not alone. I was going to leave a little note explaining why some of my lists are not filled up yet, too.

And I will leave the lists/categories empty until I've read a book. Amazing how different we all are! For that matter, if I'm not too sure which category to list a book I'll list in more than one category and change/erase it later. See - there aren't any rules and I LOVE that!

Ya know... I've heard a lot of chatter about this group helping various people reduce their TBR piles. I have a feeling it will help in regards to books that have been sitting on there for a while, but i think they will just be replaced with books that we find interesting and loved from this group... haha, i have a feeling my TBR pile is only going to get bigger.

Oh, I'm not under ANY illusion this group will shrink my TBR pile. My goal is to move forward with what's there while making room for the new ones!

I figure if i remove 100 books from my TBR pile a year.. i deserve to add more books to it... haha

I agree you read 1 and you wind up adding 2 more to replace the one you just read - you all help in making sure my TBR pile increases in size and I do not think it is a bad thing. A bad thing would be to have nothing left to read.

Yup, it would be a very very bad thing to have nothing to read.

Well, i only have 157 books on my TBR list.. if i take 100 off of it, i'll need to put books back on it.. haha.

The kids have been rather well lately, taking naps and going to bed when they are supposed to. Which gives me the time to read at night before i turn in. :)
