Once again, the first 1/3 of the book recaps sections from previous installments. Did you enjoy this or is it getting old?
I am fine with this as it never seems to repetitive and if you read them spread out it really helps to know where exactly the story takes place.
Yes, it definitely helps you to catch up if you spread the books out but can be tedious if you read the books too close together.
I would agree with that.
Since I have been reading them out of order this helps make that possible. I don't read series books back to back so I don't find it too tedious.
Since I don't normally read them back to back I like it.
Lucia has made a vow of chastity. What did you think of this plot device?
I thought it was very interesting as she was a Valkyrie and seeing how other Valkyries act (ie: Nix).
I found it interesting.. cause it goes against most of the other Valkyrie that we've seen.
I also found it interesting because so many of the other heroines in the series are virgins, which is so common in PNR in general.
Lucia has a secret past. Is her past sufficiently traumatic? Do her actions in the past warrant her keeping it all a secret?
I can't remember too much about this now but at the time I remember while I could understand her not talking about it her keeping it a secret as much as she did seemed unwarranted.
I couldn't figure out why if she truly cared about him would she not tell him. Wouldn't it have helped the whole situation?
I dislike the keeping secrets trope intensely. Rather than confide in Garrett and work with him to defeat Cruach, Lucia evades, prevaricates and lies, which ultimately gets them both into trouble.
What do you think of Garrett's character? Does his love for Lucia make sense?
I like Lucia and Garrett's bantering and his need to love her even though he does not want to.
I also enjoyed the back and forth between Lucia and Garrett. I think in the beginning it was just the mating pull, but it developed into more the longer he was around her and actually got to know her. It worked well for me.
I liked them too but I couldn't see why Garrett's infatuation with Lucia turned into love even with the dictates of Lykae mating.
What did you think of the villain? Is he sufficiently diabolical?
The villain.. I think it shows how well of a writer Cole is that she can write in a villain that for most of the book isn't even there.. is just a mere thought.
He was really disgusting but I thought the final encounter with him was anti-climactic given the build up.
Much of the story takes place on a river boat going down the Amazon. What did you think of the other characters on board?
The other characters were all a little odd.. but interesting to read about all the same. seemed like everyone had their own secret to keep...
Izabel's character was really interesting - the whole conflicted gender thing has potential. I wonder if we will see her again.
The story ends with an epilogue. What did you think of the information provided?
The epilogue for me did exactly what it was created to do.. I so wanted to pick up the next book and just keep going. I want to figure out who is doing it and what happens to everyone.
Yes, it sets up the next three books really well.
