Chapter: Five: Juliet
I get home and walk upstairs immediately. A few minutes later my maid, Rose walks in.
“Hello, miss, how was your evening?” she asks starting the water.
“It was fine, Rose,” I say in a plain tone.
“I hear you are engaged miss,” she says getting my nightgown out and setting it aside.
“I am,” I say trying to sound happy about it.
“To Jacob Kalliovski, if you don’t me saying you two would make a perfect couple,” she says helping me out of my dress.
“I am sure we will Rose,” I say getting into the tub.
“Well, If you need anything else I am always here to help,” she says gathering my dress up and heading for the door.
“Rose?” I say
“Thanks for everything,” I say.
“No problem, miss” she replies then walks out with the laundry. I lay in the warm water for half an hour, but it feels like forever. I finally get out and dress into my nightgown. I brush my long red hair and get ready for bed. Rose comes to turn the light off, and she finds me asleep. She tucks me in then turns out the light and closes the door. Five minutes later I hear something hit my window. I get up when it hits my window the second time. I walk out to my balcony and see Drew. I immediately get butterflies in my stomach.
“Juliet! It’s me, Drew!” he says.
I look down and smile “Wait one minute, I’ll be right down.” I say then run back into my room and turn the light out. I run downstairs trying to be quiet then open. I get outside and run over to Drew. “Come on this way,” I say excitedly taking his hand I lead him to my room. When we get there I close the door quietly and lock it so my mother doesn’t come in. I turn the light on and walk over to my bed. I pat the bed with my hand and he sits down next to me.
“Drew, I need to tell you something,” I say nervously, “I am engaged, to Jacob Kalliovski.”
“I know, I saw him propose to you,” he says sounding sad.
The first thing that crosses my mind is ‘Wow! CREEPER!’ but I push that thought to the back of my mind. “You did? How did you hear?” I ask confused.
“I was hiding in the bushes, I followed your carriage after you left the market,” he confesses.
I look at him, “Oh Drew, I am so sorry, I wanted to say No, but I just couldn’t,”
“Why? Why didn’t you just say No?”
“Because of my mother,” I say a tear sliding down my cheek.
“Come away with me,” He says suddenly.
“Drew, I wish I could but I can’t,” I protest. Then I hear a knock on the door. Drew freezes. I look at him
“Drew, you need to leave,” I whisper. “Now,”
He runs over to the balcony “I will see you tomorrow night by the lake,” he says.
I nod, “Go. I promise I will be there,” Then he jumps. I turn around and walk towards the door and open it. My mother was standing there.
“What is going on?” She asks sounding annoyed.
“Nothing Mother, I was just thinking,” I say.
“Oh okay, Go to bed now, you have a big day tomorrow,” she guiding me to my bed. I lay down and she kisses my forehead.
“Good night darling, sleep well,”
“Good Night Mother,” I say when she turns the light out and closes the door. I go to sleep thinking of Drew and how he had asked me to run away with him…
